Default Help with TI exhaust...

I have someone who is selling Z06 TI exhaust.
When I inquired about the mileage on the mufflers...he informed me that since they are Z06 TI....that the mileage is irrelevant. That these things last forever.
I have never heard of this.
Can anyone out there provide some insight into this.
I am also skeptical of a Brand New Forum member who has some parts to sell.

Well, supposedly, Titanium never corrodes so he is right about that but with all the crap the city dumps on the roads in the winter, I think even the SMC body panels will corrode from that crap. I would be more concerned about a newbie selling an exhaust. He might be an honest guy and a longtime reader but recently signed on to sell a few things. I'd have him take a pic of it and send it to you. Wait a sec, wasn't this guy in Jersey and you were going to pick it up? I'm sure once you see it, you'll know if it was treated well or not.

If that was the answer, you KNOW something's wrong. Think about it...why wouldn't I just give you a straight answer?

He did mention that they had 5K on them but that it didnt matter.
The newbie thing sort of bothered me.

I also am a newbie....but I didnt sign on the day before I wanted to sell something.

If he gave you a straight answer, then that's a good sign.

To give the other member the benefit of the doubt:

Maybe he heard this was a good place to sell them, so he signed up to sell them, which could be a legit thing to do. After all, even if you've been here a year, that doesn't guarantee a buyer anything, you know what I mean? FWIW, I signed up in July as an enthusiast. As soon as I find out there was for sale section, which I think was only a few days later, I thought I'd try and sell a few items I had. Other members bought them, and as far as I know, they're satisfied. Maybe the seller is in the same boat as I was.

BUT... playing devil's advocate:

If you have a bad feeling on this deal, go with your gut. It's better to be safe than sorry. I know.... you're thinking maybe you're being paranoid...but maybe you're not. If it was something like cold air screens for $50, that's one thing. But a few hundred dollars for an exhaust is another. So, if you have a bad feeling, don't do it.

Titanium is pretty much corrosion-proof having a high resistance to pretty much anything that gets thrown at it from inside the engine and without. It is generally aloyed to other metals for strength and resistance to corrosion so the seller is right and it's the sort of thing I would say if I was trying to sell it and others had perhaps been put off by the mileage. I've got a stainless steel system on my camaro and it has a lifetime guarantee so expect a titanium system to be a one-off buy.

If you have a bad feeling - walk.

There are a steady stream of TI's for sale (2 sets in my garage - but not for sale!) and other aftermarket exhaust on the forum from long time members.

Patience, my child....

Check with your local custom muffler shops to see if one of them have a set. Shipping these things is a gamble because they look indistructable but actually can be crushed fairly easily. (Don't ask.. I'm still fighting with UPS). My local shop had a set cheaper than the one's I bought on Ebay with free installation to boot!
