My C5 sits in the garage from Nov.-Mar. I'm thinking about a cover to avoid scratches and dust build up. Any recommendations on which one would be suitable for this. There is such a wide difference in price, I'm not really sure if the $40 one at Mid America would be good enough..

Maybe you ought to think about one of those "car capsules" - it's an inflatable bubble that keeps everything away from the car.
Personally I have a "Dustop" cover that my wife got for me from Griot's Garage, that I use on my 87 Pontiac. It's made out of a real soft flannel and it is custom fit to the car. I know it was a lot more than $40 though.
I guess I've always believed you get what you pay for....
The biggest thing is you want to look at the various covers and figure out which one is most suitable. CoverCraft makes excellent covers, I know they have a web site. Good luck!
I'm trying to figure out which cover to buy also. My brother (who owns an 03 Z06), advised that Noah covers are very good. Maybe someone has one on this forum and can confirm or deny this fact. Dan
I would think for storage in a garage a much lighter cover would do the trick since you're mainly trying to keep dust, etc off or out of your car.
Years ago I saw a friend's concours 356 coupe and XKE stored under covers that were made out of parachute material. The reason was it was so light it didn't press on the cars' finish and it won't stick to any wax or polish even over time. I've never seen those advertised anywhere.
Were it me, for inside storage - I'd try to find a light weight material cover.
The benefit of the NOAH fabric covers is that they are one of the best for outdoor protection and is also good for indoor (lightweight and bump resistant) use. All at a reasonable price. All covers are not created equal. Be very cautious of low cost covers. The fabrics used to make these covers can be of low quality materials. I use to work for a company that made these protective fabrics. Trust me when I tell you that the higher end covers are usually well worth the expense!! Why take a chance with your Corvette's paint!!!

Yea, that has occored to me. I don't want a fabric that will scratch the paint and cause more harm than good.
I love my weathershield. My car sits in an enclosed (on 3 sides) car port. It is light and folds small. Keeps the dust and crap off of it. When I occasionally drive it to work, I cover the car with it. The one thing I ensure is to keep it dusted if I have driven it before putting the cover back on. I go through a lot of Z6 and microfiber towels. So far so good. I think I am going to buy a second one accept get the weathershield HD and keep it in the trunk. That way if I have to park somewhere weird (like next to an SUV or under a tree or bird crapping power lines) I can pull it out and put it on. They fit tight and the wind doesn't whip it around very much. I always fold it with the front to the center of the roof and the back to the center of the roof. That way the dirty parts always overlap the dirty parts (outside of the cover). I keep folding to the center until it is about 1 1/2 foot wide on the roof and then I always start on the drivers side and roll it. Then it makes it quick to unfold because I go to the passenger side and unroll it like a sleeping bag towards the drivers side. Since mine is a Vert, I am not too worried about scratching the top when I roll it and unroll it across the center of the top. Takes me about 2 minutes to casually roll it up and 30 seconds to cover if I do it this way. I know you will have yours indoor so I would recommend a weathershield. Oh, and it washes easily in the home washer and dryer no problems.
If you keep the car garaged you probably don't need a cover. If you decide to get one 1)be sure the material breathes so you aren't trapping moisture under it 2) be sure the seams won't scratch 3) to be safe you should wash the car prior to covering so dust and dirt don't accumulate on the surface side of the cover. Note: California Car dusters are junk, just wash the car.
Well, if you have an average size garage and use it as your shop, as I do, a cover for the Vette (and the GS!) becomes pretty important. If space weren't an issue in the garage, I'd have gotten the Car Capsule. I've heard real good things about those; but they require an extra foot of clearance on each side. I wound up opting for the Dustop on a recommendation from a friend. Besides being very gentle underneath, it adds a good cushion against contact by foreign bodies!
None of these is $40, but as was said before, you get what you pay for; and given my investment of $40 grand, it's VERY cheap insurance....

Actually, the california car duster is awesome and I use it regularly to knock off light dust. Doesn't replace washing the car but definitely helps inbetween washings.
Dustop all the way. I had a Blk 95 and use just a regular car (can't remember the name) and it stayed dirty. I have two dogs that live in the garage and I would pull the cover off and have dog hairs all over my waxed Blk vette. I traded the C4 for a C5 and first thing I bought was the Dustop. It is great, I can pull the coever off and no sign of dog hair or dust.
but what are the thoughts on putting a car cover on a car that isn't "clean" that has been driven during the day. Dragging the cover over the dust and dirt will scratch the finish!?

Thanks Corpsvette for saving me the trouble of writing this post. You and I do this exactly the same way
Never put a cover on a dirty car unless you want to get your paint scratched. If the car's dirty, you're better off leaving it uncovered except under dire conditions. In other words, if my car was outside and dirty and it started hailing and there was no way to get it in, I'd cover it!
