What is a "drive shaft loop?" It is apparently used for dragging

You are correct. NHRA required for certain brackets.

Here is an example of one vendors loop

Hope this helps.

i believe it is a loop that if something happened to the drive shaft it wouldnt come out from under the car. It is a safety product. It attaches to the frame of the car and it goes around the drive shaft to keep it in place. I have heard stories about broken driveshafts being like a pole vault for a car back in the day. and I have heard other stories about the drive shft hitting the ground and coming up through the floor and tearing up peoples legs

If you have a C5 your car came from the factory with all the driveshaft loop you'll ever need, it's called a torque tube . Jeff

If you race the car, it is a metal loop that fits around the drive shaft that prevents it from dropping to the ground in the event of breakage. Its basically a safety feature.

We used to call them "hoops." Was standard drag equipment on Mustangs since the old 9" rears used to snap pinion shafts.

The 'Vette is a different animal...
