Most dealers have some sort of "doc fee" - it's basically extra profit tacked on to the actual registration costs, which you also pay. It's wise to ask up front what the dealer charges for doc fees - some border on criminal....

Just one more way they may try to screw you. If they take care of obtaining your registration, plates, and pay the title fee (if there is one), I think a Doc fee of $75 or so is reasonable. I know I for one hate going to the Registry of Motor Vehicles. I'm glad to have them take care of it.

Major rip off; never agree to pay these fees. The price of the vehicle at a dealer includes the administrative overhead. Next thing, they will add the salesman's commisson onto the price of the car.
Just like adding the price of shop towels and misc to a repair job. Another rip off, overhead is part of the cost of repair.
COB206......most MA dealers are now on-line with the RMV and can issue plates and do transfers right in the dealership...worth about $20 in labor....no more Registry runners...

Some of the fees that dealers charge can amount to hundreds of dollars. If they don't waive them, I walk away.
