I did a search on tires in this forum and I found that nothing was really there about what kind of tires are the best for each type of driver. I am looking to get new tires for my 2002 ZO6. I am a weekend driver and go to my local road track about once every 6 months. I do hit the mountians of GA as often as I can. I can handle paying alittle more for a good tire but also want to get more then 5,000 miles out of them.
Any input would be a big help. Thanks for your time.
I have the stock Goodyears on my Z06 and Goodyear GS-D3's on my '98 Z28. Especially with the Z28, I frequently had butt-clenching moments on the old tyres but ever since I fitted the GS-D3's this car has grip even in the wettest conditions. Very much recommended.
People have recommended Khumo MX as a good all around tire. Fairly inexpensive, sticky but tread life may not be so good. You may want to post in the wheel & tire section.
I guess if you are looking for near-ultimate dry traction (in street tires category), you can go with BFG KD or Goodyear F1 GS-D3 if you want wet traction, quietness and rather long treadlife. However, the GS-D3 is not available in stock Z06 size combination.
If that's not enough, you may want to try harder compound race tires such as Kumho ECSTA V700/Victoracer at the cost of shorter treadlife. I have my eyes on Pirelli PZero Corsa for my street tires. I suspect that they will last probably about 5k miles on the street, which is just perfect (I can change tires once a year, keeping them fresh).
You can also try Toyo RA-1, but the aforementioned Kumhos will be a better bargain.
At 500+ RWTQ I have a real problem hooking up. Since I love driving in the Mtns of NC/TN, the best I have found are Nitto Extreme Racing tires, but they are softer & not the best on wet roads; however, IMHO the handling & performance are exceptional. I have 4,000 hard miles on them & they still look great.
