Yes, things break when drag racing
During a pass at Cruise In 4, my air bridge popped off at the MAF. If I remember correctly, I coasted to a 18 sec 1/4. 
It took about 10 minutes to fix it and I was back in business.

Mine started popping of during my road events. If you think coasting down a 1/4 mile track is something, you should see what its like when it pops off in the midddle of a 3.2 mile road course and you are'nt even half way around the track! Its a long way back to Pit Out. The car jerks back and forth, stalls, etc. Not to mention the Lambo-like gas mileage you get until you get off teh track and fix it. What a bitch! back on.
I'm not sure about the drag strip but road racing makes it much more succeptible to popping off. On a road course, once it starts popping off, it gets less pliable and it begins to happen more often. My solution was to rivet it.
So if it continues to happen with you, you might want to put some rivets in it or replace it with aluminum.
