Found a 2001 Z06 I'm interested in. I wanted to know if there were any differences between the 2001 Z06s and the newer ones. The only thing I have seen so far is the oil ring problem. Are there any other issues or features they added afterwards anybody could help me with.
Thanks
Twenty ponies, and whether justifed or not, they just don't hold their value as well. If you can get past that and the OC problem, they have to be the best bang for your buck out there.
IMO they are both great cars. Seems like the 02 and up are more avaiable due to production numbers too. The big changes (well major or maybe significant?) are the 01 haveing PUPs, slightly smaller cam and heads that flow a bit less. The HP is down 20, and maybe .4 1/10ths in the 1/4 with a good driver. I say go for it if it is what you want (color, interior, miles and condition...). You can not go wrong. BTW I bought a 01 and have not regretted it a bit. Be careful, these cras are so awesome and easy to drive every day, you might end up driving it more than you intended (I drive mine 3 days a week but all the way)

Has your '99 been modded? They came with 345 hp from the factory. In 00, the hp went to 350. The Z in 01 had 385 and the 02-04 had 405. I drive my 01 Z every day and love it. Yeah, it is 20hp less, but I can't tell. A couple mods and I am right there if I really want to.
Most importantly...buy what makes you happy! That is the key!
Just watch the oil consumpton on about 15% of Z06 prior to mid-April producton. Mine was after that date and is great. Power is no problems. 12.15 at 114 mph. Fast enough for me!
my 01 was built in may of 01-they all have the 9lb oil rings and will use more oil-i get about 1100 mi to a qt , i run mine pretty hard, and less friction means more power...-but whats 10 qts extra a yr-except i wonder how the plugs are gonna look after 40K mi, but performance is so close -on stock ,i don't think there is much dif to 100mph, go for it ,the only downside might be resale -make sure ya got an extended warranty ..seek to get it re-ringed if it becomes excessive
The '01 has two composite rods in rear suspension,
For '02 to '04, they were replaced with metal ones.
'01 does not have HUD (Heads Up Display), later models do.
'01 is rarest of Z06 year models... production increased dramatically each year. In '04, almost 1 in 4 Corvettes
were Z06 models.
Any C5 Z06 is a totally awesome driving experience. I have an '01 in Speedway White Exterior with Torch Red interior. My Z06 is completely stock. To me, that seems pretty rare in the world of Corvettes. The mod bug is omnipotent. Even I won't be able to resist it much longer.
Which ever year, color scheme, and mods you choose to call your own, my wish for you is that you enjoy as many smiles per mile as I get out of mine.
In the end, there can be only one... and the one is Corvette Z06. The legend lives.
Dave Is Right .it Is What You Like In The Z Color,hp, Interior Etc.my Z Is Also Speedway White With Mod. Interior. I Did Have 03 Eb-z But Was Not Happy Until I Found This Rare 01z. In Other Words You Can't Go Wrong. Enjoy The Ride.

Just to clarify...
2000 base Vette 345 hp
2001 base Vette 350 hp
My '01 is fast as sh'it ran a best of 12.3 so far, going to the drags tomorrow night w/ the cold air! Only problem was the oil eating which got fixed with the re-ring.
