Default A4 Shifting Points

The Owner's Manual discusses the maxium speeds that a manual transmission can acheive before needing to shift to the next gear. I can't find the same information for the automatic transmission.

How fast can I safely go in 1st, 2nd and 3rd before redline? Anybody know? I know I could experiment, but don't want to hurt anything.

Thanks for the responses.

The speed isn't important, your rpm is what you need to watch (red line) and you won't hurt anything anyway because we have rev limiters on these cars.

I know with some of the Computer Tuning programs you can change the shift point.

I have an A4, along the lines of this question, does any one know why the shift light comes on in the HUD before the A4 shifts it self when I am doing a WOT?

But that's the whole point...I want to know about how fast (mph) my A4 C5 will be going when it shifts out of 1st, 2nd and 3rd when my foot is planted on the accelerator on the floor.
Anybody have experience with this?

This may help, with my rev limiter set at 6600, I think stock it is set at 6000 but you better check on that to make sure. I can set my shift points at +4 from stock in 1st to second, and +5 from stock on 2-3. I do not know about the 3-4 shift and I probably will never find out. I think at WOT you probably are shifting darn close to the rev limiter already. The reason I say this is because I increased my rev limiter by 600 and I only shift 4 or 5 miles per hour faster and if I go 1 mph above these speeds I burp on the rev limiter when I shift. I have discovered that shifting that high is not my best shift for the quarter mile, + 3 and +3 gives me a better time. Sorry I could not give you specific mph I will try to get that for you at the track for stock when I go next week.

Default This may help

Hi, I tried finding out the shift points on my car but it happens way to fast to be accurate. But here is some info that may help you.

1mph 1st gear ratio 2.73:1 = 105rpm
2nd = 56rpm
3rd = 34rpm
1mph 1st gear ratio 3.15:1 = 121rpm
2nd = 65rpm
3rd = 40ppm
So at 5900rpms in a 3.15:1 in first gear you should be going 48.76 mph and in second at 5900rpms you should be going 90.76 mph. I think my rev limiter is 6000rpms, so I would have to shift by these speeds or maybe a little less not to hit the rev limiter. Actually 5800rpms might be a better number to go by. 100 rpms goes by very fast.
