Default Cupholder

The cupholder in the C5 is lousy (things dont go very deep and fall out of it) and there's only one.

Anybody know of one that would fit you could buy as an addon? And where would you put it?

I have one that wedges between the dash and the floor on the passenger side. I know Van-Steel (supporting vendor) sells them, Ecklers, Mid America, ect.
Here is the link for it on Eckler's site:

They all sell for about the same price. It was my first mod to my 01. I had the one for the C4 in my 93 and loved it. The "cup holder" from the factory is a change holder at best.

Here a post by jacob(forum member) on another forum and he says sorry for the BMW mug

Here's an inexpensive ($2.00) cupholder which will fit where your existing cupholder goes. It works well on the street but has yet to be tested during an autocross.

This project requires removal of your console but is reversible. You also need to remove the lid of the existing cupholder by taking out the pins.

Start with a $2.00 black 2 inch cupholder from SeaDog, found in Marine supply stores. A 3 inch model is available if you want more height.

You then need to leather wrap the plastic holder, inside and out. I used contact cement and stretched the leather over the upper rim of the cupholder to contact the inside. I then added a strip to the inner walls of the cupholder. Finally, I made a leather strip with foam to go around the outside of the cupholder, to fill up the void in the console.

Besides looking good, the leather wrapping ends up creating a snug fit for pop cans and plastic travel mugs.

For those that have been asking, I've added several views of the console, showing where the ashtray was removed before relocating the HVAC controls. This step is not needed for the cupholder project.

Notice the screw fastened from the top to secure the finished cupholder.

Following are several views of the finished job.

Other than the leather wrapping which requires a little practice, this is a relatively easy mod. Don't forget to store your old cupholder lid and pins for future reversing of this project.

Apologies for the BMW travel mug. I need to get something from GM.

I have the Travel Buddy, got it in Shale to match my interior. It works very well for cans, cups, and even larger water bottles.

I use the console cupholder to hold my phone and some spare change.

Go with the travel buddy. It looks good, works great.Bought one from West Coast Corvettes while in Carlisle. The instructions are great.Step #1 says "allow 1.5 seconds for installation."That's about how long it takes to wedge it in.Paid $28.00.

I bought a few different ones but the one I stuck with is this off ebay. Not very fancy but ingenious for those times when you have different sized cups.

I'm with this chap. Cup holder is for car wash tokens, the bar is for drinks!

Seriously though, I'm sure I've seen baseball caps with two can holders on them and a flexible plastic straw. That'd do it . . .

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I am also looking for a 2nd cup holder for the times when the better half & I take a road trip, such as next Friday when we drive to Monterey (Laguna Seca) to see the C5Rs win their final race.
Anyway, has anyone bought one of the holders that screws into the original factory holder in the center console? Is it awkward? After reading previous posts, the travel buddy sounds like the front runner...

The Travel Buddy seems to be a good choice. Easy to install and does a much better job than the stock holder.
