Poping and backfire

Do all Z06's pop and backfire when letting off the gas?
Compared to my 99 it seems extreme.Could it be too rich? Pure stock 04 CE.

Yep, they sure do. I wouldnt say they backfile, but they do pop and gurgle as you start to engine break. A crossover X/H pipe would be needed to eliminate that. I kind of like the sound anyways

From: Bagpipes put the "fun" in "funeral"

When decelerating (engine braking) I can make a couple of pops by quickly tapping the gas pedal. I do that just do let people know I'm coming.

I'm kind of glad to see this topic, as I was going to post one similar. I guess I don't have anything to worry about according to the answers. I also have an 04 CE but it seeems the only time the loud popping / backfiring happens is when the engine is still cold. After it gets to operating temps it doesn't do it anymore.

I love making that sound. Get an aftermarket cat-back, then you'll really hear her start to pop.

......if you are slowing down and not doing so from a high rpm in each gear you will not get very much if any at all.

....I have Kooks Headers with off-road X-pipe, no cats, and the stock Ti
mufflers on my Z. If I let off at in any gear at 3,000 rpm or more you see women and children running for their lives and old men quiver in their boots.
