Despite my warnings, a friend used a can of fix-a-flat goo to repair a low tire after the Eureka Springs show last weekend. His DIC read XXX immediately for the tire pressure. One pressure sensor - R.I.P.
I resisted the requisite "I told you so". Now he's asking me if it can be cleaned, etc. I searched here, but couldn't find any info.
Aside from venting the tire refilling and repeating a few times in hopes the sensor clears itself I fear the sensor is ruined. If it's a 01 or newer the sensors can be purchased for about $60 and installed w/o removing the tire. You'll need a strong magnet to jump start it. But if he's luck he can repair this for less than $70 on hos own.
I added the LTPS to my Z and bought a 5th sensor in case I'm forced to use the goop.

I've been told the Fix-a-flat wrecks the TPS. Nericreations sells and repairs TPS for '97 - '00 cars. Sounds like a repair or a replacement is next on the agenda......
Interesting. How do you remove the sensor without removing the tire??? Please explain, thanks.
I'm an Air Force programmer (3c072) and when I demonstrate my computer skills, I attribute my success to "magic", but I'd like to know how AFVette changes his sensors without removing the tire too!

Is it a lost cause?
I picked up a roofing nail while driving through the Cross Bronx Expressway in New York and in a moment of desperation used Fix A Flat. I was on my way back to Maryland. The sensor did not go out until about 2 weeks later. Mind you that the dealership did a tire repair in between. My car is an 04. So the new sensor was installed under warranty. If you still have a warranty, see if it can be repaired through that.
The oddity of this was that the error codes appeared about a week after the dealer "repaired" the tire.
