Default Power seat/memory problem

Occasionally the seat/mirror memory will not go to their programmed settings. Sometimes the seat controls will not function at all. So, if the memory malfunctions sometimes you can’t adjust it to the desired position by using the controls, because they don’t work. If I get out of the car and reenter, most of the time the seat controls will start working again. The malfunction can happen several times in a row, or sometimes will work properly for weeks. My thinking is that either there is a problem with the wiring that runs through the door to the computer, or a bad connection to the seat itself. Because it’s VERY intermittent I’m hesitant to take it in for repair until it fails altogether. Intermittent problems can be hard to diagnose, and the dealer charges $105/hour just for a diagnostic. Has anybody here experienced a similar problem, and if so, what did the problem turn out to be? BTW, it’s a 98 with 11,000 miles.

Thanks,

Steve

Make sure you use the key fob everytime you enter your car. See if that helps. Remember if you don't use it the car has no idea who you are.

Hope that helps.

The worst problem is when the controls will not move the seat at all. I have seen others here talk about memory problems, but not the seat just being completely inoperable. I can live with the memory problem but when the seat wont move at all you're in a jam.

Have you checked the connnection to the seat. I bought a new Denon preamp piece for a stereo years back and about 4 months later it started to cut in-n-out. I opened the piece up and one of the ribbon cables inside the preamp was not plugged in all the way.

I have an 01 , last year this happened to me..but only worse...the seat had a mind of its own and would move by itself while I was driving !! it would move me all the way up and then sometimes back...pretty interesting seeing as how I was trying to operate the clutch at the same time..

I was still under warranty at the time so I took it in and it was a short in the wiring underneath the seat.

So are these cables under the seat within reach without removing it? It certainly does seem like an open in the wiring someplace. BTW, mine does some of that weird back and forth movement on rare occasions. Fortunately that doesn't happening while the car is moving. You know, for a high priced car they sure seem to have a lot of little things that are aggravating. We have a Chrysler LHS that is a daily driver, year round, ice salt exposed to all the elements. Not one thing has gone wrong with it in almost 5 years of ownership. Chrysler seems to get a bat rap sometimes but ours performs like a champ.

My dad and I both have '99 coupes with this same problem. Memory settings for seats are just potluck.... sometimes it works all the time, othertimes, it it hit or miss. Neither one of us has been able to figure out a certain combination that works 100% of time.

Same thing is happening to my '01 coupe. It's covered on my GM ext. warrenty. My dealer tells me it's a real problem and replacing the module doesn't mean it won't happen again sometime in the future. I smell a recall coming

When I got my '01 coupe, the easy entry option caused the steering to go forward all the way, and the seat to go back to just where the bolster started rubbing the pillar (in other words, 2" from all the way back). Now, I'm 5'9", so at this point I couldn't press the clutch all the way in if my life depended upon it.

After awhile it seemed liked getting out of the car didn't seem as easy. It seemed as though the seat started going only part of the way back, not as far as the pillar, but back, nevertheless. The steering also did not seem to go all the way forward. Once they both stopped as far as they would go with the easy entry option, if I manually pressed the buttons to have the steering go forward, and the seat go back, they did just as expected. I started to think I was only my imagination that the seat and steering didn't move as far anymore, and that it was just me being too **** about stuff.

Well, then, I joined this forum. One day I was looking at the tech tips section (I think) and someone posted something about resetting the steering and seat system (can't remember what the exact term was). But, I tried it, and lo and behold everything started working the way I thought it was supposed to again! Apparently, my system must have "lost its mind".

I'm posting this with the hopes that maybe, just maybe, this might work for your problem, too.

My 2002 vert experienced door lock and seat position problems which were intermittent. The dealer diagnosed the problem to be a component in the drivers side door. They replaced the part under warranty and the doors and seat position switch works perfect. Good luck!!!!!!

Check your codes and then see wazzup

http://www.stengel.net/diccodes.htm

I found latent RDCM and LDCM codes in my DIC when I put the headers on and checked for codes. Never heard or saw from them before. If there's a problem, it should show up when you run the diagnostics.

I ran through the codes and all I see are H (history codes). According to the instructions in the code link, any H codes indicate problems that have occurred in the past but are fine now. So, it does NOT indicate a problem at the present time. The diagnostic codes are very specific, down to every function of the seat controls, and shows nothing wrong. I wonder if that is an indication the computer is actually at fault for the problem.

The seats are easy to remove. You might want to remove the bolts that go into the floor and raise the seat enough to see the connections. Make sure they're tight. If they are, it's probably time for a trip to the dealer, unfortunately.

Good Luck

I have a 01 also, I have no power to my seat or to the telescoping steering wheel. I have been through every fuse 3X and pulled the codes ( nothing related mostly history codes). The memory just flashes and laughs at me. At least the seat and steering wheel are in a some what desired postion, There is no way the wife could drive it though. I guess its going to be a trip to the dealership this week.

Sometimes mine would work and sometimes they wouldn't, just like yours. I finally noticed if I put the key in the ignition before I closed the door that the memory would not kick in.
