Default Lug Nuts - Buying?

When taking my front tire off this weekend I noticed that my security Lug Nut on one wheel was not in the best of shape. I got it off and then replaced it with a regular for now.

Does it makes sense to buy 1 replacement Lug Nut or just to order a new set of chrome ones with security ones?

Also where can I get an original Lug Nut from? Does GM have them if I give them my Vin #?

Maybe I will just order new ones, is there any one that sells a good set?

Thanks

It would be best just to get a new set of locking lugs. McGard makes a good set and they are reasonably priced.

You can get them though the dealer, but I doubt that they can get just one locking lug. It probably comes in a set.

You should be able to find them at an auto parts or tire store. The Mcgard lock set you need iis # 24137.

The C5 lug nuts are a M12x1.5 thread and uses a cone seat. This is a very common size and cinfiguration for many cars, it's not a Vette-specific item.

If you want to stick with the standard plastic covers you can get a new set of 4 with a new key on E-bay for about $10. Make sure you note that they use the covers because of the thread at the bottom for the cover.

I have the anodized red spline ones from McGard, they go well with my red Z06 calipers...very nice! Here is a link.

I bought the McGard locking lug set #24137 and I'm very pleased with them. They are triple chrome plated, come with a lifetime no rust warranty and are some of the highest quality I have found. They are also a very nice match to the chrome factory lugs GM started using in mid model year 2002. I bought mine at Pep Boys but I supect you can beat their prices.

Get ride of that junk from the factory. Get one of the above mentioned set of lock and never look back.
Also, paint the new key to you wheel lock red, so you won't leave it on one of the locks. The red paint makes it stand out.

Dang, that's a good idea. Maybe I wouldn't have lost my key and had to have my locking lugs removed by a tire dealer!

Thanks guys. Ordered the McGard Chrome ones for a better match to the rims and to get rid of those ugly plastic caps.

while ordering I also decided to get some other goodies to save on shipping costs.
