went down to the local art supply store looking for something non-corvette related and bumped into the paint in a pen isle .. got me to thinking .. my dash letters need to be brough out ... so afte rabout an hour or so of painting, wiping, painting, wiping.
I came up with this ... and just incase you're wondering, no the letters aren't completely full. It looks cool from far away and kinda faded up close. It almost looks factory not something placed there, which in my opinion is awesome.
Looks good and worth a try. I didn't want to put plastic or metal letters there in case the air bag ever goes off. Don't want the passenger getting that stuff in the face. Paint seems to be the way to go.
I've been wanting to do this. What make paint pens did you use?
I tried last winter to do it with a paint brush but no luck it looked to sloppy. I tried to just paint the lower part of the lettering and not the area that slopes up to the surface of the panel. But wasen't able to keep the paint off the sloped part. Any ideas? TIA

Good point!! I agree with paint for looks and safety. It does look good in these pics.
BTW, I've been an airbag victim. It's something you never forget!
I was looking at the Testors Paint pen, any thoughts on that? Where did you get the silver Sharpie? Did you use anything to clean up any stray marks, or are you steady enough to do it withount coloring outside the lines?

I edited after you had read the previous post. Was there any clean-up? What will remove the Sharpie? How many coats did yuo apply? sorry for all the questions, but I really like the looks of this and want to try it.
the pen i used was a sharpie paint pen, with a Metallica Silver color. I used the Extra Fine Point Oil-Based Opaque Paint Marker.
if i were to do it again, i'd probably go with the fine point.
I'll try to explain how i did this the best i can.
umm, the pen really kinda just plopped out the paint and didn't act as a pen .. so i just put down the paint in the letters and then used the pen to spread it and used a rag to wipe up the excess and because it was oil-based it didn't dry right away.
like i said before, if i were to do it again, i'd go with the fine point because it acts more like a pen.
