The 01s have been beat to death! The oil problem comes from KIDS driving the cars around town in 2nd gear at high rpm. Causes ring flutter. The problem was with a very small % ,so if you enjoy and the car is great cond. go for it!

If a Z06 is your first Corvette, you better stop by K-Mart and get a couple 3 pacs of undies!!
My '01 has been great!! Go for it!

Default 01 Problems

My 01 had, under warranty, a new clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, slave and master cyl, as well as a new valley cover (oil behind throttle body), and last but not least new 2nd gear and syncros. The clutch issue is a known problem (pedal does not come back up under hard acceleration. An extended warranty is not a bad idea, as your factory one is probably gone. Check the service history for problems. If no service history, walk away. GM were real jerks on the warranty until I delt with the dealer who sold the car new. They were quite the opposite. Spend some time on the forum and do your homework. An 01 with no problems and a good service history is fine, but check it out first.

Throw that Z into a 40mph off ramp at 75 with a touch of trail braking and tell me about your TransAM!
Don't get me wrong, I had a nice 350 5 speed but when I got my 96 LT-4 the Bird went on the marketplace. The 96 saw the same fate when I got the Z!!

My '01 is awesome. I picked it up new on Jun 1, 2001. Although I don't really drive very much, it is my daily driver. Since purchase I have suffered through the Column Lock issue (which a dealer gladly resolved under warranty, no hassles).

Recently, I suffered my second service issue with my Z06. The little gadget that holds the fuel door closed would stick in the open position (wiggling the manual wire in the trunk popped it back out so I could close the fuel door). I have the GM extended warranty (Thanks Ken Fitchner). The dealer replaced the little gadget under the extended warranty. Again, this was done with no hassles.

I love my '01. I love driving it. Best of luck in searching for your piece of the legend.

I Just Purchased A 01z06 3 Weeks Ago. It Was A Speedway White With Red Mod Interior. Guys On This Forum Were Very Helpful. I Also Was Concern About The Oil Consumption Issue On 01-z06. Do Your Home Work On The Z In Questioned. See If A Gm Dealer Can Run A Service History On That Z. Talk To Gm Customer Service About Ferforming A Oil Consumption Test On The Z.but This Will Have Tobe After You Buy It. Gm Customer Service Is Working With Me Now On The Oil Coumption Test. This Is With The Z Out Of Factory Warranty. I Did This To Document My Concern If My 01-z Does Develope This Problem In The Future. There Is A Service Bulletin Number On This Issue. Goodluck

My oil consumption issue was taken care of under warantee. They did a cylinder leak down test and then just re-ringed it. Took about a week. I also got a new clutch installed under warantee. No other problems to speak of!

I got my 01 last Feb. and have been having a blast ever since. Since then i had to beat on the passenger side window motor to get it to roll down(thanks CF)and had an electrical problem that turned out to be the drivers side door module?. Other than that the car has been great, its just amazing to drive, and gets better mileage than all my buddies cars,(at least on the highway!).

As an FYI...I bought my 01 Z with 13,9k miles in July 04 for $30k including a 2yr/50k miles GM extended warranty.

As for problems...I haven't had any major ones yet. I did have my clutch not return once on a spirited run. I will be bringing it in to the dealership when I get a chance. My Z is my daily driver, so I have to plan it out. Good luck! Hope you find the right Z for ya!!
