Going to do my first fluid change on my C5. I currently only have a strap style wrench to fit oil filters. Is there room for this, or do I need to buy a different tool?
I don't know if a strap wrench will fit, but I used my hands to take it out. Just grabed it with both hands on each side and it came off with no problem
Strap kind didnt work worth a crap for me, not enough room. I just went to AutoZone and bought one of the $3.99 ones that fit on the end of a ratchet and that worked awesome. I would definitely recommend going that route.
This is similar to the kind that I used.
Just take your new filter with you so you can test fit it since there are about 20 different sizes.

I was a little pizzed that it seemed so loose, but it didn't leak oil...

Best $6.00 I ever spent. Works on all kinds of filters. Also will compress caliper pistons.

I use Mobil 1 in my '65 Hi-Po Mustang (yes, yes, I know, this is the Vette forum) and figured it made sense to use their filter as well. When the time comes to change oil in the Z06, the Mobil 1 filter will be part of it as well.
The strap type wrenches will work fine but it's a tight fit. I had to use one to get the oil filter off for the first time. It must have been really torqued down at the factory by someone with Popeye type forearms because I couldn't break it lose without the wrench. Now I just use the wrench to get a quarter extra turn onto the filter when putting a new one on.
Just so you know, different filter manufactures may have a different wrench size. Mobil may be different than Amsoil or Purilator. I ran into this when i installed a Mobil1 filter and had to go purchase a different size to remove the old one.
