thanks for the pics. that what i was thinking they are purple at night. is there anyway to keep them from glowing at night? leave a wire unhooked?? I really don't like them at night but i love the look of them in the day time.

The reason that they turn purple at night is due to the black lights that GM uses to illuminate the dash. In the picture below you can see the black bulbs on each side of the instrument cluster. I have heard from other memebers that they have polished the bezels before installing them and the bezel did not turn purple. Another option is to go with an Anodized-Billet Bezel Gauge Set from WCC
Detailed, answered the question and with pictures! Outstanding You just have to love this place. I'm hoping to get the courage to do this mod some day. The picture of the dashboard all apart just sends chills down my spine
I painted mine with a Krylon Silver Leafing pen ($6.00 mod).
It does glow purplish/bluish at night but it's subtle.
Perhaps the $100+ bezels relflect more.
I installed these on my Z. They don't glow as much as the night picture shows on mine. Don't know why, but it is fine with me. They still look silver at night.
As for the dash being pulled apart and nervous about doing it. I was very nervous about pulling it apart. But, it really isn't bad at all. In fact, I got some finger prints on the back side of the clear lens and have to pull it back apart. It will only take me about 1 hour. Now just to find the hour to do it!!
I too was nervous about this mod. The directions and pics on the LAPD website made it very easy. Glad I did it. I would reccomend leaving the dash out overnight and letting the superglue "off-gas" over night.
Mine do not glow purple tothe degree in those pics either. Wish they did I was kinda disappointed. Its very subtle on mine as well. I will post a pic later when its dark. Still looks cool. Fun mod...do it. Gave me confidence to do more mods.

I agree the night picture has a little more purple in it than my guage produce but I snagged the picture from a vendors website since I didn't have a night picture.
I did this about two months ago. The biggest problem is trying to keep the plastic lens from getting any dust, fingerprints, etc. behind it. The ultravilet lights will magnify any foreign object on the lens at night. I have a couple of specks that are not visible during the daytime but drive me crazy at night (I am overly **** about things like this). Vette Essentials has some excellent step by step instructions that I used for installation (thanks by the way). Looks fantastic, looks very natural as in "came from the factory that way..." I too will say that the effect at night is not as "bright" as in that photo. Bottom line is the duller the finish on the bezels, the less they will reflect the black light at night. I would get a satin finish or anodized so that they are a little duller if you are concerned about this, Got mine from VNM on the last group purchase and would consider this my favorite interior mod to date along with the aluminum dead/gas pedal.
