I started getting the following: charge system fault, high voltage, abs system, etc. and the guages and interior lights shut off momentarily. The dealer has so far replaced the alternator and ECM but can't figure out why it codes crazy. It runs great otherwise. Any ideas?
If you have an intermittant connection and the connection opens you unload the alternator and may get "high voltage" indication. this may explain the lights going out. But where is the intermittant connection? this may be diffucult to locate. Any recent damage to vehicle? What is the age of car? Tough one. Good luck.
I don't know what's inside the ECU, but in most data acquisition functions, inputs (e.g. voltage values, etc.) are grouped to different input multiplexers or receivers. If these particluar signals are grouped (or are grounded) together, they could all be affected by a single open circuit inside the ECU (or a single ground associated with that multiplexer outside the ECU). If the device (e.g., multiplexer I spoke of) is bidirectional, it could also cause the loss of an output (e.g. instrumentation and interior lights).
Since you already replaced the ECU, then in my opinion, it is most likely a ground associated with this group of signals.
Dealership called, said they know what's wrong. They think a wire from the replacement of the alternator is grounding against the satrter. I hope they are right.
