How do you know what's to much oil. The spray from the can is a really concentrated stream, not what i expected. So i went quickly pleat by pleat. Does that sound like to much?
If so, now what? What's worse, not enough or to much oil.
Here are a couple of sites that I found. They are not specific to the Blackwing but provide some general guidelines that we may be able to apply to our Blackwings. The Donaldson site is useless b.t.w. Hope this helps.
From the K&N Website.
"When servicing a K&N filter, take care not to over-oil the element. Besides impeding air flow, excess oil can migrate into the intake system where it can coat electronic sensors, which some OEM’s claim may hinder the sensors’ operation and result in a repair that will not be covered under warranty. Although K&N disagrees with such claims, as explained in more detail on this web site, in order to avoid a dispute with an OEM over the denial of a warranty claim, we suggest that you be careful not to over-oil your K&N air filter. Never saturate the filter. If oil drips from the filter, wash it and start over. Use only K&N oil. For example, an E-1500 filter has 92.4-inches of surface area requiring 1.707 fluid ounces of oil. Follow oiling instructions included with your filter or refer to the instructions listed here."
The links i've attached are the two that are referenced in the paragraph above.

Thanks!
Yeah, I just did mine as well. I was surprised to see a foam-like stream
from the oiler.
I quickly sprayed each pleat as per instructions and let it sit an hour
on some paper towels to absorb any overflow. None was visible.
I guess that's why they put a blue dye in the oil.
I then blotted in between each pleat with a clean paper towel.
Got very little re-absorbtion.
I then checked the inside for excess. Got none.
I'll drive it a few hundred miles and remove the air bridge and check for
any oil.
If it is over oiled, it'll be evident there.

Good pointers here. I will have to do mine some day - I already have the Blackwing re-oil kit which includes the oil and a cleaner. Thanks for the info.
