I have vett since 6/98 ... fob has passive in "off" positions ... For reason that I cannot figure every time I park car and walk away car locks by itself ... this happens if keys are sitting in car, or in my pocket ... first time this is an issue since day one
Can't figure out why this occurs, or how to correct ... I did change cell phones recently, any chance this is sending some signal ?
I am stumped .. Thanks for your collective insight
I'm more inclined to believe that the problem is with the switch on your key fob. Have you tried cycling the switch on the fob from on to off to maybe clean the contacts. I'm betting the switch contacts are dirty or corroded and the switch isn't actually registering as "off" Does this happen with both of your key fobs?

Sounds like you are probably a candidate for a new FOB. Considering the abuse they take such as being dropped etc, it's surprising these radio transmitters last as long as they do sometimes. HTH
If you go to the DIC menu and push the options button, it'll go into configure option menu. Click the option about 4-5 times and the option "auto-lock" will appear. Click the reset button to change that option.
The key fob button is only to engage or disengage the passive locking system, it has nothing to do with auto lock.
I don't, its the darnest thing, passive is off, keys are on console the you hear click, bang locked!
Keys can be on a shelf away from the car, click, bang locked !
So far so good

Sliding the switch on the fob to 'off' isn't enough. There's a detent. You must push it securly to 'off' until it clicks into the detent, or it is still 'on'.

There's a reason Chevrolet took this feature out of the 2000 and newer Vettes - it sucks and never works right. I made the mistake of turning it on right after I got the car - and within a day I struggled with turning it off.
I found that really pushing it hard to off like mforman42 suggests did the trick. Good luck!

I think that feature is not what's at work here. The "Auto Lock"/"Auto Unlock" will either lock your doors automatically when you first start driving or unlock them for you when you stop driving. As you said, it's not part of VATS.

Damn, you're right, I forgot about that.... well, guess door# 3 wasn't the right one...lol.
