this may sound sorta stupid but i'm not losing traction like i think i should. I drop the clutch rite around 4k rpm and i get lots of clutch slip and not much wheelslip on grippy pavement...this is from a standstill...from a slight roll i rev and drop and get lots of wheelspin....whats going on?
Your clutch is slipping.
It might not be totally bad yet, but doing 4k drops wil guarantee it won't last too much longer.
Imagine the dynamics involved...once you get the clutch slipping, it's going to continue to slip until your really let off the throttle and allow it to finally grab. It's just like spinning the tires...once you get them spinning , it's doesn't take much effort to keep them spinning.
By getting on it just moments after the clutch has grabbed and is holding, it takes a lot more to get it to slip, so as you experienced, it will now hold enough to overpower the tires.
Also, from even a slight roll, you already have all the shafts/gears/tires.etc in motion, so the ability to instantly spin them faster becomes much easier. The car also weight transfers less from a roll, allowing much easier rear wheel spin.
well i'm definately a new owner since i've had the car less that a couple of months. What does everyone out there do to get the tires spinning (i'm pretty near stock) is it weird that by dropping it at 4000 rpm it spins the clutch and not the wheels? I used to drive a 3000gt VR4 so with awd i would drop the clutch at 4000-5000 rpm and it wouldn't slip it would just launch hard. I'm getting ready for a trip to the dragstrip and i'm trying work on my bleach box burnout and I need to know how to launch the car too. BTW when i was talking about dropping the clutch while at a slight roll i would disengage the clutch rev, THEN drop so it should have had to engage again like that, you guys thing my clutch is really going out?
