Fairly new C5 owner, and have been following many threads here. (good stuff BTW).
Question is - in a large metro area, who best to do routine and/or squawk list items needing repair?
Dealer, or a good mechanic? Assuming the later, how would you find one?
Drive up in a Vette, and everyone 'proclaims' to be an expert. Just want to be prepared when the day comes to take it in for service. On other GM vehicles, I've less than impressed with the dealers shops.
Take it to a forum vendor in your area or, if possible, do the work yourself. I knew 0 about cars when I got my C5 and after toying and discovering how easy these things are to work on I do everything myself (including my cam install). Do it yourself & get the piece of mind that it was done right.
All right, how about all of the above. Like Torchredfrc, I knew just enough about cars to be dangerouse when I got my C5. I've found that with the help of friends that are mechanics (both actual and shadetree) that I can in fact do a lot of the work myself.
I'd ask around the forum and find competent people in your area based on the input and experience of others that have had the work done. If you post the topic you are likely to get all the information you need right here to make an informed decision to the the work done.

First, I'd get the service manuals just for a handy reference. Many things you can do yourself if they don't require any special tools. If it is something beyond your capabilities, just ask forum members in your area for recommendations. They will tell you where to go and where to avoid. If your car happens to be under warranty and it is something that may be covered, obviously try the dealer. No sense spending money on something that you don't have to. Good luck.
