Anyone installed an XMCommander sat reciever. It looks like the display might fit where the cig and ashtray is located.
Second question is where did you mount the antenna??

Reason: spelling
Do a search, I can remember at least a dozen posts about it. A few guys posted pic's of the face plate mounted in the ashtray and they put the antenna on the frame inside the rear fascia. Remove a tail light to do it.

Alpine remote tuner in ashtray, receiver under pass. seat and antenna inside rear bumper fascia. BTW, removing the license plate/back-up light assembly along with the RH tail lights helps a lot too.
I installed mine on the outside of the ashtray door. The antenna is behind the pass side tailight. The unit is behind the a/c controls. Here's one pic. I mounted it to the left for visability reasons, otherwise the shifter interferred.
My Sirius unit is mounted the same..antenna wise I reccomend you get some velcro and mount it temporarily first and see how it goes..i couldn't get any reception worth a damn with XM so that is why I went with SIRIUS...its different for some people I don't know why...anywho..i ended up mounting my antenna on my back glass up near the top...used clear silicone..works awesome...good luck
Will the XM signal pass thru the rear fascia?? I've been told it is strickly line of sight.
I spoke with TERK maker of most of these antennas and the guy said Yeah it will work but it MAY need to be on a piece of metal...well I can tell ya it just DEPENDS....I mounted my Sirius antenna on the back glass and it works fine....some people have antennas in the rear fascia, on the dash, center console....all I can say is experiment and see what works best for you...velcro is a good temporary fastener until you find out what works

Yes. It passes through quite nicely. The "line of sight" you refer to might apply to the signal coming off the satellite, but since it's in a geosynchronus orbit over the U.S., I don't think there are any "line of sight" issues to worry about. The only exception would be when you drive through a tunnel or overpass. I have a Terk magnetic base antenna stuck to a little "L" bracket I fabbed up and used two existing bolts to bolt the bracket to. If you don't want to make a bracket you can stick it to the frame support inside there too. HTH
