Ok guys.... Earlier today I went to a car show put on by "Corvettes of San Diego" and I'm cruising through the "Wash and Show" section. I come across a new Mag Red C5 coupe with dealer plates from the San Diego "High Volume" dealer. So I ask the guy if it's a 04. He says yes and we talk cars. (I have an 04) Well, I'm interested in what they're going for so I ask what he paid.... he proudly announced: "$57,000." Well, needless to say, I didn't know what to say. I'm now trying to slip away, not wanting to discuss this further... (don't want to embarrass the guy) when his wife calls out to me: "what did you pay for your 04?" I reluctantly replied: "$40k.... but that was a few months ago when they were giving them away". I didn't want to embarrass them.... Next they both ask if I have "HUD" or as they put it "the thing in the windshield". (Is that a $17,000. option???) I mumbled... "yea, I have all the fun stuff" and excused myself.

If true.... it's amazing what can happen when an uninformed consumer and an "aggressive" salesman get together.... This guy was either trying to impress me or he really got taken.

Oh, I also saw, for the first time a C6 up close and.... well you know. It looks goofy.

 

Unlike many, I like the looks of the C6, particularly the vert. However, they really do want a LOT of money for that thing. The base car isn't bad but the options load it up in a HURRY. I priced one myself and it was about $57k too. That's why I'm still in the black beast.

 

He said it was a 04 C5, not a 05 C6.

I guess the dealer thinks that since it's the last C5 then it's worth more. Either that or he has no idea how cheap everyone else is selling them, or hoping to blow smoke up someone's rear that might by it because it's the last of the C5's. Hey if you don't know any better you might fall for the trap.

Sounds like he has more money than he knows what do with. He probably does not care what he paid for it but on the other hand dealers can lead you down a rosey path quickly.

Everyone likes a deal but sometimes I rule with my heart instead of my head when it comes to cars. When I was looking for my C5, I paid 25K for a '98 vert with 40K miles. It was probably priced 2-3K too much but I REALLY liked it. It suited my needs, my color (though I wasn't originally looking for Nassau Blue) the options I wanted and the price I wanted to pay.

However, paying 17K too much is not using your heart or head, that's plain stupid.

Well, did ya tell him about the forum... if he's that stupid, guess we don't need him here anyway...

Anytime two diferent people pay the exact same amount for identical cars you can be sure that one person got taken to the cleaners. But that's quite a diference...

While out with my sweethearts, (my 99 and my girl) we saw a wine colored C6, I hafta agree with you. The eyes, the big smile hmmm.
Nothing against the vette breed but give me my C5 FRC any day.

I also agree that the new C6 looks a little goofy.
The only things that I like about it is the engine and the non-pop up head lights. I hope they plan on making somthing a lot cooler after the C6! Because in my opinion the C5 blows that car away.
