I just installed Borla Stingers on a 2004 ZO6 . Can anyone tell me what an x-pipe will do? Does it make exhaust louder? Is there anything you to do to make inside car quiter? I love the way they sound but Im not sure if there a little to loud inside for me. Any Ideas?

The X pipe is generally meant to help equalize flow between sides and might reduce the "poping" sounds during ngine breaking at higher RPM's. I would imagine it wont make a great deal of difference but will likely change sound slightly. Most folks help ease exhaust noise inside car by installing the rear partitions that separate the cabin from the truck area. Andy's partitions are a forum favorite and supposedly of excellent quality (http://www.zo6parts.com/) and come in a host of varieties and can even be customized for you (although somewhat expensive). If you are weight conscious some of them could be in the 16 lb area so ask upfront what their weight is. On the cheaper side, ecklers carries more inexpensive and lighter version. I am still not sure which way I want to go (I still have stock exhaust which still is quite droning to my passengers - I tolerate the noise level by increasing radio volume). You may want to search the forum for similar threads regarding rear partitions to get varying opinions.
X-pipe won't help the noise. A partition is the best bang for the buck. You can get a good one for under $100, or make your own for less. You can also insulate your car with sound proofing material. There are also companies that will spray sound deadening material on the under-carriage of the vehicle to deaden the sound.
I just put stingers on my car this weekend and the car isn't really any different until I get on it, so I guess the cheapest deterent to the noise level is replacement of the lead foot.

Paul,
I had the exact same issue after I installed my Borla quad round Stingers. I loved the sound. It made the car even more fun to drive, but I was occassionally getting headaches due to the sound inside the car. A forum member recommended a $99 partition from Eckler's. I bought it and it works great! Cut the inside noise by 50% and no headaches anymore. The inside part of the partition is covered in black material to match the interior and has the Corvette and Z06 emblems on it. Looks great, gets the job done and inexpensive to boot. It's about 3 inch thick foam that just form fits into place in about 5 seconds.

Cool .. How much does the $99 Eckler's partition actually weigh roughly ? Some of them could weigh as much as 16 lbs I hear.
Thanks for the info guys, Now next question who has the best one for looks , sound and price? I see eklers for $99 is the thickest at 2.5" and others are 1" does the thicher one block more sound? Others seem to cost 3 times as much.
The X pipe will alter the sound of your stingers by making them slightly more mellow. Not worth the money if all you want is a quieter cabin. I agree with trying the partition. The only reason I have an X pipe was to get rid of the H-pipe jingle.
First adding the x-pipe and a set of long tube headers actually made my quad tip stingers quieter at idle (on a 03 Z06), at WOT it's about the same but the exhaust note changed - for the better. So the x-pipe header combo will quiet it down presuming you can keep the right foot out of it!
I've had two Andys partitions and while they are not cheap they look the closest to a factory product and are very effective at cutting the sound level in the cockpit as well as making the stereo sound much better. I highly recommend the Andy's partition, a great product at a reasonable cost.
Paul I Just Put Borla Exhaust On My 01z This Pass Week.love The New Xhaust Tone. I Also Installed A Andy Partition The Same Day. Not A Big Noise Issue For Me In Cabin . Enjoy The Sounds.
Had installed the Bassani X pipe prior to the installation of the Borla Stingers. While not quiet, nice sound w/o the popping. Very aggressive sound when accelerating, that can be heard for some distance.
There was a prior posting on using A/C duct insulation in the rear compartment under the carpet to reduce the sound level. Purchased
Frost King FV516, 12" wide X 1/8" thick X 15' long, sold by Home Depot and Lowes, yet to be installed.
Thanks.. I will check on EBAY. I like the dual tips better anyways. I will see if I can find em! $500 is not bad! Hey by the way. I'm assuming anything from 97 -2004 is all the same correct? I have a 2004 Z06. I know a lot of places show year ranges up to 2002 or 2003. I'm assuming they just haven't updated their database. There is nothing different on my 2004 Z06 than say a 01 - 02 or 03?
