I love this forum .. my car had been brought to GM several different times on a squeek that sounded as if it were coming from the dash .. i searched around the forum and read something about the springs that hold the midpipe in place. I saw the springs the last time I was under there and figured it might cause the problem, but dismissed it due to the location. However when i read up on it, i strayed some WD-40 on them and pushed the pipe up and down till the squeek stopped, now it's gone.
I'm so happy. I can drive without any music and not have to listen to SQUEEK SQUEEK SQUEEK ... it got annoying, real fast.
Squeek, schmeek, after driving my C4 vert, my C5 is as quiet as a Lincoln..... but I'm with ya'll, I'll tear everything apart just to find a squeek. It'll drive me nuts. I know people must think I'm stupid when I'm driving with one hand leaning over putting pressure on different items trying to find a squeek.
Glad you found yours... I'm sure we'll all be keeping that in mind.

LOLOL that is soo funny I do the exact thing. The best is when my girlfriend is with me. She knows exactly what im doing when I angle my head and turn the radio down. Im trying to locate a rattle I just heard, then I start pushing stuff.
Can you give more detail as to where or what I would be looking at? I too have a rattle that seams to be coming from the dash. Sounds to me that someting is loose but I have been unable to find out where the hell its coming from.
I had the same problem after installing LT headers. All I did is twist the little springs back and fouth a few times. I guess they were not aligned just right. That cured my squeek.
Interesting. I have a rare phantom dash noise that occurs somewhere between 60 and 70. If that happens again I’ll douse my springs.
Thanks for the post.
Last week I heard of something called harmonic resonance (or something like that). Anyway in cars it happens when the car gets to the right speed or RPM level. At the perfect speed/RPM there is a vibration that causes something to rattle, but when you are above or below that speed/RPM it goes away. I heard about it on the "Car Guys" show and found it to be interesting. For many cars it is the heat shield below the car that vibrates and causes the noise, but of course yours is something different.
Good luck finding it. They suggested 2 people to find the problem. One to drive and the other to look for the problem when you hear it....
