Default CE Stripes Update

I received my CE stripes the afternoon before the Eureka Springs rally and decided to put them on my '04 C5 that night. I had ordered them masked and they came out perfect on the hood and rear deck, but didn't do a great job on the roof. Anyway, they were on the car when I headed to Eureka Springs the next morning at 5:30 AM. I was very glad to have them as my Torch Red C5 would have been hard to find in the sea of red C5s at Eureka.

After much though about what I should have done during installation, I reordered just the roof stripes (unmasked this time) and reinstalled them last night. The old ones will simply peel off, but not without a good fight and Wipe Away took care of the residue. This time the roof stripes came out perfect.

The secrets to getting the roof stripes on right are 1) open the rear hatch (this allows you to better get all of the bubbles out of the rear on the Targa section) , 2) as soon as you get the roof stripes in place and reasonably secure, cut the stripes at the rear of the seal between the roof panel and Targa section and remove the top, 3) with roof panel off you can get all of the bubbles out of the front and rear of the stripes, 4) on the roof panel, leave about 3/8"-1/2" overhang and after about two hours of drying, simply wrap this excess over and under the ends of the panel (do the same with the stripes at the rear of the Targa), 5) the only fine trimming you need do is the front edge on the Targa section - the best tool is a rotary fabric cutter (it won't bind and pull) you can find in the crafts section at Wal-Mart). If you can't cut a reasonably straight line (like me), get one of those flexible metal rulers and tape it down (Cork side up) with masking tape and use it as a guide.

If I had not been in such a hurry, I would have found a professional. This stuff is not easy to work with and at times requires two people. I was also very happy to see that these can be removed and not leave any trace that they were ever present.

This is good stuff to know, thanks for the post. What color did you decide on. (Yeah there were definitely alot of red C5's in Eureka). If you have the capability a photo would be nice.

See, he can do it so it was not that hard
Just take your time and if you have a second hand, then it would be better.
I don't know why the roof is so hard becaus it suppose to be the hood and then the trunk. The roof is pretty straight and flat surface.

Well, thanks for more tips. I will try to add these to my instruction.

***BTW, he got white/white on his TR

Mike,

Any update on whether you got your 10 buyers yet? Also, is it possible for you to send out samples of a couple of colors? I'm not sure if I want to go with Silver/Red Trim or Gunmetal/Red Trim. I have a black FRC and don't want the stripes to stand out too much....

Let me know and I'll IM you my addy. Thanks.
