Default Competition Mode question (yes, another one)

"Competitive Driving Mode

The Corvette Active Handling system will be the first of its type to offer dual mode operation. In addition to an "OFF" mode, in which Active Handling is disabled, the system also allows the driver to select a "COMPETITIVE DRIVING" mode for autocross or gymkhana competitions. In this mode, the Active Handling system remains fully-functional -- measuring steering, yaw rate and lateral acceleration inputs as well as applying individual wheel brakes as required -- but the traction control system is disabled, allowing for some wheelspin and oversteer that skilled drivers often find beneficial in competitive driving."

Is Competition Mode an 'optional' part of active handling, or if you have active handling then you have competition mode? I ask, because I can't seem to get competition mode to be set following the 'hold the button down' instructions that I've seen posted alot.

You must hold the button down for at least 5 seconds while at a standstill.

If the button on the console says "Active Handling" you have it. If it doesn't say that you only have traction control.

To switch to competition mode you must be at an absolute standstill (engine running) and hold the button down for 5 seconds. (Mine takes more like 10) 2001 and later C5s allow you to be moving.

Competition Mode is not an option. If you have active handling you
have it. On the newer version holding the button down for 5 seconds
puts you in competition mode. On the earlier version I believe you
have to be stopped to do this. Consult your manual.

If you have the optional Active Handling on 99-up C5s, then you will have Competition Mode in the system. Push the button for 5 seconds and the DIC will show "COMPETITION MODE" and this will turn your Traction Control off during the run or until you enable it or turn the key off.

I also just learned that after it says: Competition Mode you can hit the reset button to clear the message and allow use of the rest of your DIC. The Competition Mode is still on until you turn AH back on, or turn the car off.

On my 04Z you can activate the Comp mode while driving but on the earlier Z's you had to come to a stop. Also remember that if you turn off the key you will lose the Comp mode and will reactivate the Active Handling, maybe this is what your doing. But it should be there

The first question is does your 98 have Active Handling? It was optional until 2001. No AH = no competitive mode.

This must be something new cause my 02 always says Comp mode. I tried the reset and no workie - kind of a PITA if you want to monitor temps while at the track....

If there's a problem, you'll find it with these instructions. It, as recently as last week, solved a code with my new headers.

... pardon me, but WRONG!

i've engaged it while in excess of a standstill. I believe it was pre-00 that you had to be at a standstill.

Edit: ... ya know, i really need to read an entire thread before posting.

00 and before had to be at a standstill. And a lot needed more than 5 seconds. 01 and up could be on a roll.
