Default Paint problem?

On my MY 04 Z06 I noticed that on the nose cone edge on top of the car between the hood/cone and running between the headlights the white primer is showing. It is located right on the sharp edge of the cone piece and was wondering if anyone else noticed this? It looks like paint was never applied or was somehow removed(buffed by dealer). Will the remaining paint peel off or can the edge be painted without the whole front having to be done! Any ideas? Thanks.

I would think that it was buffed off as you could not paint a panel and miss the edge. Does the front edge of the hood sit below the back edge of the front fascia? I would bring it up with the dealer to document it, but I would be very hesitant to let them paint the front fascia. Some will disagree, but I would be afraid of mismatch on any repaint- to be a good match, they would have to paint the front fascia and blend into both front quarter panels and the hood. Also, no matter how good the paint shop, the different paints will age differently over the years.

I would try this first: get appropriate touchup paint from Chevy and a very fine and expensive camel hair brush, OO or OOO, and barely touch that edge with the paint. You may find that you can now live with it. If not, you can then proceed to chatting with our Chevy dealer.

The hood does sit below the back edge of the front fascia. I would have to guess that while preping it, they buffed the paint off. I am lucky that with the millenium yellow paint it is not very noticable. I think I will take your advice and try to fix it myself. Now I know why people do not want any dealer to prep their cars. Thanks for your advice!

This may sound like a dumb question, and if it is i apologize...but did you check and see if it was wax?

If they've buffed it, it's more likely that it's buffing compound and you should be able to polish it out...

It is primer and the paint either was not aplied or most likely buffed off by accident on the sharp edge of the fascia. GM uses a white primer on vette panels under the MY paint/tinted clear coat.

With an '04 it should be under warranty. Take it back in and have them reshoot the area.

I touched it up this afternoon and it came out great. What a relief! I also adjusted the hood so that the front hood is raised just slightly higher then the front fascia.
