Well, I've been trolling this site for some time now and it's a wealth of information.
2 months ago I bought my dream car - a 2004 Black Coupe 6-speed. I'm 33 with a 15 and a 13 year old and figured no finer time than the present to dive into a real sports car. It's my daily driver and I love it.
I have a couple of questions:
1. Shortly after bringing the car home, I noticed an annoying whistling noise comming from the left side of the car. On windy day cruising at 70 or so a little noise comes from the drivers window but nothing like the pass. side. I took to the dealer and problem still exists. I've had 5k cars with the same window set-up not make nearly as much noise. Is this the window not sealing properly? What is the fix?
2. Two weeks after having the car, some kid backed into my rear end while in a parking lot. I was heart broken. His insurance covered and I took it to the dealer for repair. They replaced the rear bumber cover and repaired and painted the rear quarter panel. The problem is when the sun shines just right in the garage, I can see an obvious paint color difference between factory and the dealer black paint job. Any suggestions as to what I should do?
Also, I ride a '04 Yamaha R1 and coming from the bike world I was a bit suprised at the same waves I get from other Vette owners.
Welcome and congrats on the ride!
My car had to have the windows adjusted or aligned by the previous owner. I believe this is a common thing--someone else will respond shortly I'm sure.
Welcome to the forum and congrats on the car -I do not have any wind noise on my 03-sorry no help there,as for the paint problem, black is hard to paint and get it to match the rest of the car,but sinse your car is an 04-I would think that a reputable, experienced paint shop like the chevrolet garage that you bought it from should have no problem matching it,I would demand that they repaint it.....(IMO)

I agree with the paint issue. You also have to consider that factory paint usually involves some degree of orange peel. It's hard to duplicate that at a reputable shop But I wouldn't accept it if it's noticeable.
The window adjustment shouldn't be a problem. Take the dealership manager for a spin up to, oh, say, 150 or so. Scare him into correcting both the window and the paint issue

You can adjust the windows to tilt in further - that may help with the wind noise. Did the body shop blend in the paint on the fenders at all? This would probably help. However, if the paint just isn't matching, just take it back and have them give it another try. Best of luck.
Welcome to the forum and congratulations on the new car I can't offer any help on the paint issue, but I agree that you should try the window tip in adjustment. It's an easy DIY. The best directions I've found are here:
I would suggest that you also check out the tip for adjusting the window blow-out clip on the same page. Read them both and see which one you think applies. The window tip in is very easy to do and you might try that anyway to see if it improves your condition. Hope this helps. Here's to miles of smiles and a wave from Massachusetts for ya :
Congrats on the new car and welcome to the Forum! Its always such a crap shot on paint, you just have to find somebody that knows what they're doing and rarely is it a dealership shop!
Welcome!! Sorry to hear about the noise and rear end issue's. The people that make up the forum here are the best, any ?'s you'll get an answer fast. Good luck and ENJOY!!!
I posted this earlier for someone else. From their response it may be that this applies only to early model (1998) Coupes, but I'd check it out anyway. It came directly from the GM Service Manual.
Window height adjustment proceduire (minor - use if height is off less than 3mm or 0.12 in). If yours if off more than 3mm, let me know and I'll PDF the Trim Panel Replacement - Door and Major Height adjustment procedure to you.
Open door and remove the front access plug and the rear access plug from the bottom of the door.
Adjust the front and the rear window regulator jack screws equally.
Close the door and check the window alignment, readjust if necessary.
Replace the front and rear access plugs.
Window Tip-In Adjustment
Position the window fully up
Remove the large access plug from under the front of the door.
Loosen the window regulator front channel mounting nut.
Remove the reflector from the trim panel
Loosen the jack screw jam nut
Adjust tip-in with the jack screw
* Turn the jack screw clockwise to tip the window outward
* Turn the jack screw counter-clockwise to tip the window inward.
* One turn of the screw equals approximately 1 N.m (0.04 in) change at the top of the window.
Tighten the jack screw jam nut
Lower the window
Tighten the window regulator channel front mounting nut.
Riase the window and check the alignment, readjust if necessary.
Install the access plug under the front of the door.
Install the reflector in the door trim panel.

...1) an adjustment is in order ...or had louder exhaust
Jackalope may be able to assist...
...2) an adjustment is in order ...dont let a dealer paint your vette...
someone around here has to know the name of a corvette paint and body man...
The adjustment advice in previous replies should work just fine. If you are not satisfied with the paint job, tell them to make it right. You laid out your hard earned $bucks for a fine ride, and you (like most of us who will admit) are obscessed with the car.
Your 15 year old will soon (gasp - gulp) be wanting to drive it. Welcome Bro, glad you're here!
