My 2000 has the GM extended warranty for up to 50,000 miles. I bought it before the original warranty was up and everything has worked just fine. A friend has a 2000 as well and his GM warranty goes up to 100,000. My car now has 49,500 and when I went in today to extend the warranty the financial guy I was talking to called GM and found out that GM will not extend a warranty unless there are 3000 miles left and if the time limit has not been exceeded.
So, I'm just about out of warranty. A couple of weeks ago someone posted about a really good after market warranty. Anyone remember who the company is? And, what's your opinion and will the warranty be accepted at the GM dealership? My dealership, unlike most of you guys, is excellent and I want to continue to use them, if possible.
Finallly, if the warranty is not usable at GM dealers, do any of you guys in the Ft. Worth area have any suggestions as to a good independent repair shop?
I bought a 99 coupe a month ago (out of warranty) and did two weeks of exhaustive research of these extended warranty companies. The bottom line was a choice between warranty direct and 1Source. I chose 1Source mostly because of the recommendations of members of this forum. Chances are either one is OK. They seem to be the two most popular ones. I won't know if I made the right choice until I need to use them (hope that doesn't happen for a long time). My 99 had 30,500 miles on it. They gave me an additional 55,000 and/or 5 years for $2150.
We looked at 1Source and Warranty Direct after advice from members. Have them email their contracts then read them over with a fine tooth comb. I can’t remember what some of the wording from 1Source was that leaned us toward Warranty Direct but WD is the one we selected. Good luck.
