I have a set of 2000 wheel sensors in my tires and will be replacing the rubber this week.
Because of this, I will have access to my wheel sensors.
While they all still work, I would like to replace the batteries in them myself if this is possible.
Has anyone been able to get to these batteries and replace them successfully?
I know there is a company who does this for around $50 each, but I love "tinkering" with things like this, and if someone can do it, it must have been done by someone else.
Anyone out there with experience rebuilding/replacing batteries in their wheel sensors?
Please Personal E-mail me if you prefer.
Thanks!
Rob
(p.s. sorry I double posted this on C5 Tech.....I didn't mean to post it there)
I thought I'd try this, too. The battery on the early sensors is encased in a wax like material. This had to be removed in pieces. The 3V battery is on the right side of the sensor (with the wax side up.) I checked with the local Battery mart; the replacement cost is ~$10, and it has to be special ordered.
I may try an ordinary 3V battery (much thinner) just to see if I can reset the sensor. If it works, I'll probably spring for the $10 battery.
I am debating how to replace the wax. I'm leaning toward using simple paraffin, but I'm not sure of its melting point. I don't want the sensor to melt after a short drive.
Let me know how it works out for you.
Great thread!! I am a tinker bell also. Do one of you have pics of the sensor and the area that is (waxed). That would be a good thing. Is the battery a lithium battery? I guess it must be to last as long as it does. Silicone sounds like a good glue to use. It can be taken out if you want in the future.
My 2000 "chimed" r/f tire pressure low. When I checked the pressure it was OK. Does this mean the sensors are "going south?" I'd hate get the warning constantly if that's the case. In my C4 I finally removed the bulb from the DIC I had one off the old style (C4) sensors come apart in the wheel at 105 MPH. Was a very exciting ride! The stainless steel band broke, so I removed all four sensors.
