Where are you guys mounting them and is it easily visible from the outside to cops and would-be theives?
Just mounted mine to the right of the rear view mirror and because of the tint, you really have to look to see if it's there. Used remote and hardwired in. Will barely notice it.
Mounted directly under the rearview mirror...
...then hid the wire along the windshield and hookup with the accessory power wires provide behind the passenger floor plate...
...sorry I cant find my pics :o
Living out here in LA, having it visable when you are not in the car is just asking to get a window smashed.
I finally settled for two small black velcro dots on the dash. I stick it up there and it never moves, and I can take it off and hide it when I am not in the car.

Yep, that is exactly why I haven't gotten a V1 (or other detector). When I was in high school in the early '90s, I mentioned to a guy I knew that I was thinking about buying a detector. He said, "I could get you one but it might burn your hand." (ie, stolen). He went on to say that another guy in our school stole them regularly out of cars. Naively, I asked "how does he get into the cars? does he use a special tool to break in to the car?" "Yeah," the guy said...... "a brick."
That guy later got arrested..... as he should have..... nothing's worse than a thief... especially one who is destructive...
I've had mine mounted just behind and slightly to the right to allow it to "see" - have had it mounted - in my vert - since day 1 (May 2000), and I think the suction cup mounts only failed once.
Once you hard wire it with a remote, others will have to look hard to even find it. The key is the remote - once it's all installed, all the lights come only from the remote.
I haven't got a V1 but I mount mine up in the tinted area and it still works. and I can even put my visor fully forward and it covers it up without anyone being able to see it. And it's wired into the mirror so that it comes on automatically. Don't leave home without one.
