Default Conditioning seats ...

Do I "love" my car if I put leather conditioner on the seats with my hands ... no towel, except to wipe off residue. Am I getting carried away? I just find this to be the best way to get the cond. into the vleather ... yeah I know it's leather + vinyl. I massage the cond. into the leather, kinda like rubbing suntan lotion on .... nevermind all that. Am I alone in this kind of behavior? Anyone have any "personal" touch techniques with any cleaning?

You are not alone, I have been using that method for years. Like you said it's the best way to work the conditioner in and you don't waste it being absorbed into the towel.

I use a towel. What you do sounds like a massage!

What you do sounds more like Manual Manipulation. I use a towel. If your method works...more power to ya....!!!

When at the NCM's 10th Anniversary the detailing dude was there and did a seminar on detailing and also suggested using your hands. No towel. When I got back I used some conditioner that I had been using for the past year with my hand. It became sticky during the application. Garbage. I then used the new Zaino I had bought at the NCM and it went on great and the leather has never looked better. My .02

I have red leather seats, and find they get dark "stains" on them from grease and whatever, which can be removed with saddle soap and a lot of elbow grease. Is there any other way to clean the leather which doesn't require all that scrubbing?

What's " ... whatever ... " Have you tried Meguiar's Leather Cleaner? It's a light spray on ... I have a blk. int. so I just use the Meguiar's conditioner/cleaner ... it's get's the "whatever" off without color changes.

I also use my hands because it as it conditions the leather it also makes my hands softer and smell good.

I use clear plastic gloves (not latex gloves) to massage the conditioner in. It works great and I can use my fingers to get into the crevases really well. I don't think its a good idea to use your hands since your skin can absorb the conditioner as well, especially if your working it in and who knows what chemicals are in that stuff.

I use a cloth because when I am done there is alway a little bit of dirt on the cloth. I don't think using your hand will pick up any dirt. JMHO

I do the same thing. I put some of the conditioner in the palm of my hand then rub it into the seats. They I wipe it back off with a clean towel.

I spray Lexol on my leather seats, rub it in with my hand, and wipe with a clean rag. I have been doing it this way since 1991, when I got the first Corvette with leather seats.

i cant remember what brand of conditioner i used way back in high school on my mother's caddy but it said to use your bare hands and not a towel because the towel will abosorb the product, not only causing u to use mroe than is neccessary, it also said some of the minerals, ingredients or whatever would abosorb into the cotton and some would not causing the conditioner not to get into the leather and work as designed, kina like it would "mess up the recipe" or something. ever since then ive always used my hands to get it in the cracks crevices etc then used a very clean new lint free towel to wipe it back off.
