Default Storage Question

Any thoughts on this:

I am storing my 01 Vette in an underground heated parking garage for the winter (Nov-Mar). Is it better to start it up and run it around the garage (like going around one short block) once a week or let it sit for the 5 months? Advantages and problems of each option are appreciated

Thanks for the help

Default Storing Vette

Hi,

I store my Vette for the winter, too. Since I do not have power in the storage unit, I disconnect the battery, crack with windows a hair, and that is all. I never start the engine -- or ask someone else to do it while I am away. The reason: Unless you can load up an engine to operatiing temps, you are creating moisture that will lay in the oil and exhaust and create corrosion.

Your Vette will be happy left alone.

Jim

Default I concur

You are better off just leaving it. I have regularly stored my 93 300zxTT. Unless you drive at least 20-30 minutes, you do more damage than good (for the reasons mentioned)

A couple of things I'd like to add. You can roll the tires to prevent flat spots. It is not necessary to raise the car on jack stands. Also be advised than rodents, like chipmunks, do more damage than almost anything else. Use traps or bait to insure they do not set up winter housekeeping in your car.

If it were me, I'd let it warm up and drive it just a little. It doesn't take much but you really would want to let the fluids circulate a and be able to park again without the tires being in the same spot.

BTW, Ecklers has cradles to park the car in that distribute the weight over the tire so you don't flat spot them if you're not going to drive it.
