Just before leaving on a 1100 mile mountain cruise I installed a Hurst, Classic, round, 6 speed **** and I can highly recommend it. It has a much better feel than the stock **** and since the threads go just about all the way through, it makes the shifter shorter. If you try it , I believe you will love it.
The classic hurst is nice, but these are nicer!!! www.mgwltd.com
They actually make the ones you see at WestCoastVettes that sell for like $70-90, except you get it direct and pay half!!!
these guys have some cool shifters. I had ordered both shifters and the e-brake. I like the pistol grip more then the roundball for some reason so that went back!! Word of caution on the E-brake, that thing sucks, it holds in place with 4 set screws and keeps loosening with each pull of the e-brake. Someone needs to make a stock replacement using the factory hex screw that bolts in place at the base or I see big problems in emergency situations!
I just installed this new plain black **** I got from Flameball. The threads are special order for corvette ***** (9/16-18) I cut a 1/2 inch off the shifter so that the **** would cover all the threads when screwed down. I love the feel of it, I had one stock in my 85 Z-28 and always wanted to go back to that.
