Default HELP! Key fob died!

my key fob stopped working the other day, and i assumed it was a dead battery. I replaced the battery, and it still does not work...
do i have to "reprogram" the fob so that my car will reckognize it? Or is it just time to buy a new one?

Thanks,
Dan

Just hold down the lock and unlock buttons until the horns blows then you should be good to go.

In case you don't have a manual. I've submitted this to the tech tips section but it's not updated yet.

I thought it would be a good idea for all the new members/owners that bought a used car and may not have received an owners manual to document this procedure. This is right from the owners manual for my 1997 Coupe.

The manual for my 97 says

"Try to resynchronize the transmitter by pressing and holding the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons for seven seconds when standing next to the vehicle." This will attempt to resynchronize the security code in your RFA key fob transmitter.

When resynchronization is achieved the horn will chirp. If attempts to resynchronize your transmitter to the vehicle are not successful, you man need to match the transmitter to the vehicle.

To match the transmitter to your vehicle:

1. Turn the ingnition key to the ON position
2. Clear any warning messages on the Driver Information Center (DIC) by pressing the RESET button.
3. Press the OPTIONS button on the DIC several times until the blank page is displayed, then press and hold the RESET button for two seconds.
4. When the message FOB TRAINING is displayed, push the RESET button once. The message HOLD LK+UNLK 1ST FOB will be displayed.

5. Press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter simultaneously for 15 seconds.

6. When a transmitter is learned, the DIC will display FOB LEARNED and then prompt you to learn the next transmitter.

7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for each additional transmitter.

8. Remove the key from the ignition.

The programmer mode will shut off if:

You don't program any transmitters for two minutes.
You take the key out of the ignition.
You have programmed three transmitters.

Hope this helps.

Paul

If this doesn't work, you may have a bad fob.

I had trouble with my fob, installed new bat, resynchronize , tried relearn on both my fobs, no go. Before this I was getting some stupid codes. Took it to the dealer they found 2 loose grounds. The worst was the one under the battery, after tightening, every thing was fine, check those, grounds good luck Jim.

I had a weird experience with my fobs.

I changed both batteries one day and they both didnt work. I did the re-sync/re-learn procedures and still nothing. Bought new batteries again and nothing. I ordered a fob off of ebay and it works perfectly!

I have another problem with my fob. It will only work when I stand next to the Vette near the gas filler door. Anywhere beyond that and nothing happens. It has a new battery. Maybe it's time for a new fob.
