[Z06] Change is good!
First, the new Excedy dual disc clutch is, in a word, awesome and in a few more words, worth every dollar it costs. It's the clutch that our cars should have come with right from the factory. First gear is challenging, to say the least since the release point on this clutch is so different. This clutch is not as "heavy" as I thought it would be and will not be an issue (from a leg weary point of view) even in stop and go traffic. However, I am certain I'll get use to going from a standstill fairly quickly, All the rest of gears....no problem whatsoever. Chatter? Hey, I've got that BIG cam. What chatter?
The rear....4.10 gears. Combine this with the new clutch and I think you'll understand what I am talking about. I think I'm going to like these a whole lot.
Time will tell, but they seem to be pretty easy to adapt to the new shift points and the rpm bands are fine with me.AFR 205's...new heads, new power. How much? Don't know and won't know until I get 400 miles on the clutch and rear. Then it will be dyno tuned. It is hard to assess this change, since I can't really get "into it" until the break-in period is completed and the car is dyno-tuned. Also, the air is so much cooler, so our cars run better anyway in this environment. Right now, it is just set with a "street" tune, but it is very smooth (and quick) up to 4K rpm. From what others are reporting, the AFR heads and the G5X3 cam are a very good combo. The ultimate test will be after tuning and when I put my CCW drag package on and take it to the track. Hopefully I'll break into the low 11's, but I know a lot of this is driver dependant. Maybe I'll let Brent drive my car...then I can become a member of the 10 sec. club!
Well, at least the car will be a member.
