Finally installed the clb after almost getting stuck in drivway fri. After calling for the flatbed when I went out to move car it was alright, coincidence or what? Anyway I did it today hardest part was unhooking the harnesses. By the way the steering wheel never locked up when I got the service lock message, they did replace the whole thing in may and it didn't lock up then either, just the fuel shut off, I hope I'm done with this!!
Now you have to worry about damaging your BCM. Aftermarket CLB's can cause incorrect voltages to it. The only GM approved bypass is the Harness K. Cost a little more because it's a GM part but, you won't damage the BCM. Some will say not to worry about this ever happening but, there are documented cases of problems with aftermarket CLB's.

After all the posts I've read about this CLB problem,,this is the first thing I've heard about the BCM, now what, sit and wait?

Shylor, where do we find this GM approved CLB? Thanks.
Guy's don't let that scare you from installing the CLB, I was talking with Nate at the Corvette Garage and he tells me that they have sold Hundreds of the CLB's with no problems. Go for it.
The part number is 88952427. I think the price is around $85 plus shipping from Fichtner Chevrolet. It is used for the auto trans column lock issue. As everyone knows the manual trans C5's changes things for GM legally and is the reason they don't use it with them. It requires removing the steering wheel, airbag coil and lock plate and takes some time to do it.
Let me say this, it is true many people have not had a single problem with an aftermarket bypass. But, when you do damage your BCM because of it, you will have an expensive repair.
I installed the CLB after my 04 Z06 had two incidents of SCL in first 3K miles.. In both cases it cleared, but I have no faith in the system nor GM "fix". I installed CLB on my 99 also and never experienced any problem. The best part - GM reimbursed me for the CLB and the install cost.
Shylor - That contradicts the actions of a fairly large vette dealer who said "OH NO! I wouldn't ever install the CLB" and then said "here, give to it to me I'll put it in for you and never admit it"!
Happen to a friend of mine. Another friend also had the recall done and his car locked up as soon as he got it home!
Now, I am not saying you are wrong. Any electrical component plugged into an electrical system has the opportunity for failure and damage to the system.
Personally, I just put the CLB in and forgot about it!
We are talking about an "Aftermarket Bypass", causing problems with the BCM. Not the GM approved Harness K bypass which provides the BCM with the correct voltages.
A recalled manual trans C5 can still get a column lock as the recall only shuts off the fuel should a lock occur. In my opinion there is no reason to do the recall if your car is a manual.

How does the "Harness K" bypass connect into the electrical system compared to the aftermarket CLB?
I know the aftermarket CLB removes the locking mechanism completely from the system. Does the factory harness also prevent the lock from being activated?
