Default Probleme with intake!!!

Well, as some of you know i just got my ZO6. Anyways, I just instaled a halteck singer cold air intake and power duct (power duct comes with the kit), took my car for a spin and the check engin code pops up !
Do you guys think I need to upgrade my MAF sensor also, should I try leaving the stock power duct? Or is there an other fix?

You may just have to wait for the computer to adjust to the extra air coming in...

Also, I just went and pulled the codes and the 10-pcm 2 codes comes up? Is it OK if I reset it? What is that?

i just installed the halltech stinger as well

i popped a code the first two times i have driven the car

i ended up resetting the PCM (disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes), and then did the idle relearn procedure

i've driven it about 100 miles since, and no check engine light.......yet

knock on wood, but i hope it stays off

also, i heard by doing "dave's cold air mod" along with the stinger will get rid of the check engine light because of the added air flow

Sorry for the ignorance, but what is the "dave's cold air mod"? Oh and how do I do an Idle relearn?

Your MAF sensor is not reading the incoming air correctly. You have undetected air sneaking by the MAF's heated wires. This is not due to the airbox allowing "extra air" coming into the motor. It is a result of turbulent airflow.

Your best bet is to have to PCM reprogrammed. Your car is not making max power with inaccurate fuel metering. An idle relearn is not necessary.

before you spend $500 for a dyno tune, you have two options that have proven to fix the issue:

1) get the older MAF that comes with a screen..you can find that on halltech's website...this for sure will fix your problem

2) try some type of "scoop" mod like dave's cold air mod...it requires a little patience and handiness with some tools, but people that have done it on the '04's have claimed that the check engine light has come off...

what's your email address?

But if I get the old MAF with the screen, will it affect performance at all?

Default intake problem

Check and make sure you have no leaks on the intake system

If you are really looking for a performance increase to go along with your airbox then you should get a tune. If you just want to make the Check Engine light go away then you can try one of the other suggestions.

:werd:

the only reason i'm holding off on the tune is because i will be getting headers/xpipe in a few months, so i don't want to have to do another tune then

Halltech systems Inc. just sent me an email a few days ago recommending that i disconnect the negative battery terminal overnight to reset itself. This is what i recieved:

You might try disconnecting the battery overnight (negative side), allowing
the Long Term Fuel Trims to reset to zero. If this is not done to begin
with, your computer will sometimes go beyond authority to trim for the new
air.

Typically, the codes are caused by the Z06 MAF, which is a POS. The C6 MAF
will cure the problem forever.

The 2004 LS1 MAF is identical to the C6 MAF and is what is currently
available and in stock. The part number is on our website under
Installation. You might check with your local dealer to order first, but
try the battery fix. It usually works.

You can reset the Check Engine Light yourself from the DIC in a minute, but
that will not cure the problem. By erasing the codes, you merely shut off
the MIL on the dash and in the PCM.

Jim Hall

I'm going to try this tomorrow and see if it provides a fix or not. If not, i'll probably just end up buying a new MAF, since i don't want to go cutting up a leased car. I'll let everyone know what happens.

Hey man keep me posted on your exhaust work, are you getting a package headers, X-pipe and cats or are they all seperate? I'll be installing my Magnaflow X-pipe tomorrow. I hope it will give me some ponys

right now i'm looking at LG long tube headers, which come as a "package" per say....it comes with a magnaflow x-pipe and you can choose if you want high flow cats or no cats at all

it's kind of pricey, so i'm also looking at Kooks

this will happen probably after the holidays and the new year in which i won't have to worry about spending any more money on gifts for other people, but for me instead
