oil life remaining question
I just had the oil changed but the "Oil life remaining" on the DIC still shows 5%.
First, how do I reset the oil life remaining.
And second, would the check engine light come on because of this?

Look in your owners manual for this. If memory serves me correct, which it doesn't most of the time, Hold the reset button in for a few seconds.

How to Reset the "Oil Life" indicator
After an oil change, you need to reset the oil life indicator so that you know when the next change is due. Here is how to do that:
1) Turn the ignition on, but make sure the engine is off.
2) Press the "Trip" button on the DIC so that it displays "OIL LIFE" percentage.
3) Press and hold the "Reset" button for two seconds. "OIL LIFE REMAIN 100%" should appear on the display.

Here is another way.
Turn on the ignition but don't start the car. Depress the gas pedal 4 times.

Why would anyone bother doing it with the gas pedal method when all you need to do is hit the reset button?

Follow the steps mentioned by GrayC5.
I would not think that your check engine light would be related to this.

And all of that is contained in your fine manual!

Check engine lights are usually related to emissions systems stuff....

I just reset my oil life for the first time and it didn't exactly work the way the manual said. When I held the reset button I got a xxxx oil life message rather than it saying " reset" like the manual said. After a few tries with the same response I turned off the ignition and when I restarted the oil lfe displayed 100%. Does it matter if you do this with the engine running or off?

Thanks guys. It worked with the engine shut off. Doesn't work when engine is on. But the check light is on. Guess I gotta take her in.
I have no warranty. Any suggestions to where to go?

No warrany? Read your codes through the DIC, and post them here to find out what they are. Sometimes, you can reset the computer, and the code will not come back. Example is a misfire code due to poor fuel, or the fuel cap not on all the way.

Yes. Step 1 in the manual reads, "1) Turn the ignition on, but make sure the engine is off."
