Default Magnesium wheel repair/repaint

Anyone ever sanded and repainted a magnesium wheel? I am getting mine done tomorrow by a local store I have been using for a while and was wondering what others have done. I am changing them to gloss black with metal flake. Should look good with the black top.

I hadn't seen that done yet... There was someone a while ago that had polished them and they looked really good, but I believe that it took a lot of work....

Look forward to seeing some pics...

Default Experience

This guy has some experience with these wheels. First time he tried this, he did the usual thing which is to dip the wheel in acid to remove all the paint. Well, he did not read the MSDS on the acid and the magnesium had a violent reaction causing a liquid fire. The rim dissentegrated! Now he hand sands them all the way down for repainting. The last ones he did for someone turned out really nice, but he painted them the original color. I want to try black on a mag red vert. I will post pics when I get them in 3 days.
