I've got a 2000 Vert with a Black cloth top that's looking faded and has lighter areas where it has rubbed from being folded. I've washed it with soap and water, but it doesn't help. Anyone have an suggestions? Do you think an interior spray upholstery dye might work?
Try raggtop cleaner made by Hertz with a brush.....you can order it through the NCM 1-800-53VETTE
That's fine but won't do a thing for the rubmarks. Trying to keep the light oak top clean is a pain in the *ss let alone have to deal with the wear marks, some of which are caused by so much cleaning.

I disagree it helps with a blacktop and if rub marks are caused by cleaning you must be cleaning with a jack hammer
My 2003 is black and I use the Raggtopp cleaner everytime I was it. I use a sponge on the top and it helps keep the rub marks down. I also wash the top at least once a week.
I have a perfect condition one from an 02 that I'd sell for $350 shipped...
The spray dye might work okay, just mask very carefully. What you're likely seeing is fading from UV rays. Undoubtedly at some time, a harsh cleaner was used on it that pulled the UV protectant out of the cloth...allowing it to fade...

Hi Tony, thanks for the info. The only reason I noticed the top was that I had to put it with on the way home Sunday. First time in ages.
I have a 2000 with a black fabric top. You can reduce the rub marks by brushing gently with a brass suede brush. This brings up the nap. Also ,I place a towel in the fold positions on both sides when I lower the top. This keeps the top fabric from rubbing on itself when the top is down. You may also want to consider treating the fabric with 303 Fabric Conditioner. It renews the water repellent finish.
