Default DIY - Rear Fascia painting

Thinking about trying painting the lower part of the rear fascia satin black over the winter to go with my new wheels (black Z06 motorsports)

Does anyone have any tips?

type of paint?
surface prep?

Thanks

Best of luck. I may be doing mine in the near future as well.

unfortunatly, my car budget is stretched to the limit now, so a body shop is out of the question (unless someone could bump me just enough to get insurance to pay for it)

I'm hoping to do it myself

Honestly think you'll spend more $$$ in paint & prep not to mention a good spray gun than what a decent body shop would charge... Unless your looking to spay bomb it that is.

Just my 2cents

Good luck though

Be hard to make a vinyl template to cover the muffler opens completely.

I had it done by a local body shop..$125.00 in matte black ! Came out great. I also did the front with black contact paper and will have the shop paint when I have the time.

You can also use 3/4 inch black electrical tape to do the outline and spray yourself if you feel confident with your abilities.

Here's a video you can see the work..

Also more pics on my CF homepage ..Link below

..hmmm...yep this would not be easy...unless the mufflgers are removed...

...and even then the contours would be difficult to cover...

yeh, i would have loved if somebody came up with a way of doing this in vinyl, as i'd like to do it with silver or gunmetal on my black car and dunno how that would look, if it looked terrible in vivyl .. off the vinyl comes. Paint, well .. it's there for-E-VVV-ER.

Vinyl would not work since if it works, you would have seen me selling it
It will work but just for s short period of time since we need to stretch the vinyl to cover all the contour areas and it will reduce the adhesive density so the vinyl would not stick well anymore.
I really wanna paint it as well but not sure if I like it or not because I cannot reverse.
Do they have some kind of paint that we can water it off like in the movie "The whole nine yards" ?

Just picked mine up from the shop this afternoon. IT LOOKS

The cost was 200$ and he was done in 2 days. Very professional job, lifetime guarentee. Satin black over white.

I was planning on posting a picture but the cam battery is dead so I have to charge it up. If I don't take some pics before Saturday, I will definitley get some during the Skyline Drive cruise this weekend!

Maybe I'll just bite the bullet and take it in.

let's see - $125 in the states probably means about 250 euros. With the current exchange rate. $325.68. Oh well.

You know now that I'm thinking about it, those pics of the silver vert painted C5R style (the whole back) were pretty cool. Maybe I'll go all the way with it.
