I knew this would get your attention, your oil changed that is. What did you think I was talking about. I did my first oil change at about 4,200kms and my gauge still said about 65% life still left? How far can you go before you change your oil.
Common question here. I change my oil once a year or at the 5K mark, whichever comes first. I do my own oil changes. I ignore the oil life info on the DIC.

I change mine when the DIC oil life remaining says between 40-45%. That comes to about 4500 miles between changes. The manual says do not go over 10K between changes, but depending on the conditions, it could be even less than 3K between needed changes.

I usually follow my DIC (sorry, couldn't resist! )When it indicates 30-35% oil life remaining which for me translates to about 4500 miles, I'll get it changed. 4500kM if I did the conversion right is 2790 miles. Personally, I think you're throwing away perfectly good oil at that low mileage.
I went 5000 miles on my last oil change, and the DIC showed 39% oil life. My oil analysis results showed the oil definitely could've gone longer.
Next spring when I get rid of the oil from the winter months (yes I'll be driving it in the snow) I plan on running that oil change interval right to the end of the oil life on the DIC. I'm confident the oil analysis results will show it could go even longer, especially since the 97-00 C5s oil life monitor is calibrated for a 10k maximum while the 01-04 is redone for the 15k maximum that they went with in 2001.
