I've been following the forum for several years now, but just recenlty got back into the forum with a new id. I have a 92 that until recently has served my needs well. I stepped deep into offshore fishing and tied up all most of my $$ in my boat and gear, unfortunatly I got an offer on my boat that I couldn't pass up so I sold. Well now I am faced with more time that I than I know what to do with so I am considering a new/ used Z06. I found an 01 with low miles and he is willing to take my 92 on trade. I have the current car fax and I was able to talk with the general on any service concerns that seemed to plague the 01's. With a clear bill of health it seems I have a great opportunity to move closer to the mainstream of Corvette ownership. I guess now what I'm wondering is what are the opinions on the new C6's vs the Z06's? I am hesitant to buy any first model year regardless of the manufacturer, but look to the CF for you opinions.....

Regards,

Rick

I've never been known for being unopinionated, so here's my 2 bits -

I agree that first-year woes, especially for the General, would keep me from a spanking new C6. Also, I don't believe you'll find the performance in a C6 that you'll find in a C5 Z06. Besides, you'll pay a heavy premium for being one of the first in your neighborhood to own a C6.

Regarding the '01 Z, if it were me, I'd pass. I'm not knocking the '01, but between the potential oiling problems and the fewer ponies under the hood, I'd opt for an '02-'04. In fact, if you're considering a C6, why not look around for a new '04 Z06. There are probably still a few left floating out there to be had for a pittance! However, I have to say that you can't go wrong with ANY Z06.

Lots of "depends on" here. If the 01 is ultra low miles, well cared for and has a full service history to back it up I wouldn't have any problems buying one. Now I'd also add it needs to be priced right. By that I mean new 04's are going for $42K maybe even a little lower as we get closer to the off season for vette's. Super clean used 02 to 04's can be had for low 30's to high 30's. So for me the 01 would need to be priced in the low low 30's maybe high 20's. Else I'd come up with a few more bucks and buy an 02 or newer. Take a look at this site which outlines the differences between the 01 and 02. It may help you decide.

Aside from the 20 extra HP, there's the HUD and the second generation AH to consider.

Good luck
