g-tech devices-are they any good
Hey, i was wondering if those g-tech devices were any good, praticually the compitition model that is supposed to give you RWHP & RWTQ, and is able to be hooked up to your computer.

I have the G-Tech Competition Pro and I actually like mine, I find it easy to use and consistent. I have mine hard mounted where the ash tray used to be.

I have one and it seems to be reasonably accurate. (works great for before and after comparisons) One thing you should know however, it indicates road horsepower and torque NOT rear wheel horsepower and torque. Road horsepower and torque are a lower figure than rear wheel horsepower and torque. The road figures are actually rear wheel horse power and torque minus the horsepower and torque lost to aerodynamic forces acting on the vehicle.

Mine is the manual version and is a bit annoying to use since it reads either time or HP - not both in any one run. The HP runs about 10% less than a dyno, but relative measurements after tuning are reliable. I have LSedit and can make a change and test immediately afterward to see what I did with the last change. Helpful. With Shorty headers, LS1 intake, BBL throttle body, Vortex intake and duct, Magnaflow exhaust, I dyno at 345HP and the g-force measures 312-314.
I find the timing - mostly 0-60 helpful. Both for performance analysis and launching practice. After installing the 4.10 rear and with some practice, I find that I can generate consistent 4 second 0-60 times with my 2000 vert. Without the g-force, it would be hard to assess the nuances of clutch, throttle and wheel spin.
So, I think it helps with launches and with tuning.
