Quick A4 Gear Question...PLZ HELP...
I am about to buy another corvette....a 2001 with 2.73 gears...can I simply pull gears and put 3.42's in or do I have to change carriers? Please let me know an estimate of about how much $$$ I am looking at if I can't simply swap gears.

I have a 2000 A4 and I just changed from 3.15 to 3.42s and I changed the whole carrier. The carrier was $1099.99 and the install was $399.00. Keep in mind A4 cars will also need a custom tune for propper shift points. I don't know why, but simple gear changes don't seem very popular with C5s. I hope this helps, good luck.

You will need to change the carrier. The carrier used for 2.73 geared cars is different from the carrier used for 3.15 and numerically higher geared cars. You might also want to install a high stall T/C at the same time you swap gears. You will have to pay the labor charge twice if you install gears and a T/C separately. Check the C5 Parts For Sale Forum, sometimes you can find used 3.42 gears for about $500.00.
