Default finally... the 12's !!!

Although I don't consider myself a drag racing enthusiast, I am still interested in my 2002 A4 Coupes performance in general. And many here might remember my long quest to dip into the 12 second range in the 1/4 mile; but I couldn't seem to ever get there.

Tonight I did it !!!!

and another run of 12.973 proved it wasn't a fluke. I parked the car after that. A few asked why I had parked and I said the 12's were all I was aiming for; and now since I reached it I was going to relax the rest of the night.

the last time at the track (about 2 months ago) I ran the 1/4 mile 20 times in 2 hours at a special track day. Most runs were in the 13.15 area. And a fluke run reached 13.06 which was my best; and my only run into the 13.0x arena. This was after weeks of Predator tweaks on my A4 tranny and some advancement of timing... but the 12's were just out of reach.

What Changed??? AFR tuning Thanks to many here that introduced me to AFR tuning... especially Phil97SVT who posted a very detailed thread awhile ago about using a wide band O2 device.

to make a long story short, I purchased a WB O2 setup, found my WOT AFR was seriously rich (11.5 to 11.85), and adjusted it with my Predator to around 12.5 on average.
During my first run tonight, I knew the car was running better. The engine seemed smoother than it had ever been during WOT, and the SOTP meter was registering a little more pull. I was elated when I saw my time slip of 12.934... and this on my second run of the night... and a little rusty on the launching technique.
But, fearful it was a fluke, I ran again getting the 12.973
So, I knew it was for real.

Without the CorvetteForum, I would still be in the 13.3 - 13.4 range.
Thanks to all of you who share your experiences

My 2002 A4 Coupe performance mods:
*Z06 air lid

Nice Job !!!! Glad to hear it.. At least you don't get the first class escort to the gate for dipping into the 12's like I do.. Vert =

My goal is 11.99 and if they don't like it... too bad...

So you think the tunning is what got you under 13. I have an A4 with the Halltech Stinger best so far 13.45. Would like to join you in the 12sec club one day.

fantastic
coaxing a virtually stock C5 into the 12's (along with developing technique) is an enviable accomplishment. Your direction is exactly where I hope to take mine (and me).
great job

I hit 12s on my first run during my first time on the track. I was so excited and couldn't believe it. I was aiming for mid to high 13s, so I got a nice surprise when I got the timeslip.

Since I have a similar setup, I would love to know your settings and what you did with the Predator especially.

2002 A4 Quicksilver Coupe
3.42's (stock tc)
Corsa Indys
Blackwing with High Flow Airduct
Ported Throttle Body
Diablosports Predator

Did you send back to Diablosport for any new updates, other than the gear scaling issue for 3.42's ???

Mike-
Congrats! Welcome to the 12 second club. Some better tires to help put that 60 foot time would get you even deeper in the 12's. Jeff

Way to go and a respectable 60' time to boot. If that was your first time in the 12's I'd be willing to bet it's also your first time to have a 60' time under 2 seconds. That 60' time helps.

Nice runs.

Well after seeing that, I now know I should hit the 12's so far my best in my A4 with only the air filter changed is 13.14. Coming soon is a set of LG headers, Corsa Indys and a Dyno tune. That should set me about right to hit the 12's. Congrats on reaching your goal.

other than the custom file for the gear ratio change which was emailed to me ... no. And the newer Predators can handle non-factory gear scaling out of the box.

Don't forget that if you go again next summer or something, Air Conditions can play a pretty big Role in that time! I just wanted to throw that out there if you drop a little time on a hot day. Yesterday was a GREAT Day to run at a strip, nice cool air and it didn't seem too humid!!! We went a while back and from the start of the night to the end I was dropping approx. 0.2-0.3 on my times so if you were running in the 13.1's you would be able to gain it with the cool weather. I am still trying to get where you are, CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!

What is your RWHP on a dyno with your mods???? With my mods I'm at 322 and could only pull a 13.22. Just looking for that Holy Grale of 12 myself.
