my 2000 coupe has a mild front end/steering wheel wobble at 70 mph and above - is this an alignment problem, another problem, or nothing unusual? the tires are new, and I believe the front end was aligned with the new tires, but I am not sure. thanx.
I recently had the same issue after having mounted a new set of tires. Since you've just mounted new tires, it's very likely that you either got a bad balance job or perhaps have a tire with high spots and is out of "round" in relation to your wheel rims.
Most people don't realize that tires can be moved around on the rim to find the best match or marriage between tire and rims to eliminate high spots. Have this done to provide you with the truest most round ride. One cause is that the tire bead may not be properly seated all the way around the rim.
A good shop that does on the car spin balancing can resolve this issue by moving the tire around on the rim and also reseating the bead. I'd also recommend getting the on car spin balancing to get a glass smooth ride unless you're going to be taking your wheels off the car frequently...
